Well, if deers cannot see colours, they probably see different shades of black, white, and grey. So, camouflaged clothing will still blend into the surroundings.

But deer CAN detect movement and they are very aware of their environment. The slightest movement, unless masked by some means, will spook a deer. A solid-colored arm or leg can still stand out against a multi-colored background and the deer, knowing that's unnatural, will boogie on outa there! The camo pattern breaks up the hunter's outline and helps mask movement. The pattern can be matched closely to the background expected during hunting season and to the characteristics of the game animal or bird. Y'wanna increase your chances of bagging your deer this season, speak to experienced local hunters and get their suggestions regarding which camo pattern you should use.

True the camouflage looks to be in shades of gray to the deer, but it does cut up the regular outline that would point out something noticeable to the deer.

A lot of animals are color blind as an advantage. Without having to sort out all the color information they can better track movement; this helps in their hunt and any attempt to notice an attack.

Not all animals are color blind so color camouflage would do the same for them. Camouflage isn't just for animals it is also used for humans so you can hide. This is one reason why SWAT teams often wear urban camouflage.

While they can't see colors they do have a good ability to distinguish patterns. The shape of a human would be unusual in their environment and therefor frightening to them. Camouflage works by breaking up the human form to allow it to blend into the surrounding environment. Deer may not see the actual colors on the camouflage but they can see the light and dark areas of it which helps to make the hunter blend in to the surroundings.

The most important function of camo is not to make you look like a tree, it is to break up the human silhouette.

There are several different kinds of camo.

I like the ones with the added benefit of Scent-Lock!

Not only are they unable to distinguish you from the surroundings, but they can not smell you either!

Any camo has more to do with breaking up your outline, than making you blend in with colors.

Obviously, every plant and ecosystem has different shades of colors, so its impossible to have camo that exactly matches every color there. The camo is simply supposed to break up your human shape.

Patterns of different colors fool the eye. The best camo patterns are like the German "pea-dot" or "fleck" pattern, or the new "digital" pattern the US military is using. Other countries use camo like this, and many hunting camo's use the same principle. Lots of lines, colors, and different shapes, to break up the silhouette of the wearer by fooling the eye - its main purpose.

To try not disturb any other animals in the surrounding habitat and to just generally blend in. Its not that the deer can't see the colour its that they cannot see the people wearing the colour.

Try this, get two black and white photos of people in the bush, one where they wear camo and the other where they wear solids or stripes.
Then tell me which one its easier to see the people in.
