I reload. What do I need to be safe to big bear hunt, and white tail and have still meat to eat. It needs to be economical and be able shot it, not have it kick the snot out of me. I now shot a 300 WSM and love it, but don't think it is enough for the great bear(grisely). If you give me a Cal. please give Max. and Min. bullet wt.s along with FPS.

I'm looking at buying either a .22 or .17 bolt action rifle, not semi auto. I am wanting to know which will give me better accuricy and distance for targeting? I also need to know which make and models are good on a rather tight budget?

Target shooting specifically. I went to a shooting range a while ago, and man, when you pull the trigger ... it's an incredible feeling of respect for the physics and chemistry behind it all. Anyway, i had a blast and would love to get more into it ... but am totally clueless on how. Any thoughts?

Where are some good places in and around Chicago to hunt, and if so, what game is available for hunting? If possible, can you give me the name of a site that could get me a hunting license, etc...?

My Dad had got this shotgun in a trade from a friend that he works with and I was cleaning it today (we had this shotgun for less than a year) and I noticed a orange like color on the outer ring of the barrel that connects the barrel to the stock (this part is perminatly attached to the barrel and is closer to the muzzle that the chamber) and anyways

I told my Dad and showed him and he just said that it was a dis-color-ation of the metal. I disagree but I know this could be true because for a shotgun this one I think is on the cheaper side, but its still a great gun.

So how can I tell if its rust or not and if it is rust how do I get rid of it without scratching up my gun?

I do know that when a car gets rust you sand the rust and re-paint the car but for the rust here would I sand it too and then re-paint?

And thank you all ahead of time for reading all this and helping me!!!

Here in NC we are debating the no hunting on Sunday law. Allot of other states allow it. Does anyone know of any problems that have really happened because of hunting on Sunday?

What is the youngest age you would allow your child to go on a short half day hunting trip?

My oldest son is 3 1/2 and keeps asking to go hunting with daddy. He understands that my husband kills animals (only one elk or moose and a deer per year) so that we have food in our freezer. We don't eat any other meat other than game. We spend a lot of time up in the woods so he has seen many alive animals and he's also seen the carcass. He has a toy gun at home and he understands all of the safety issues of the gun (we NEVER point them at people, hold them with barrel pointing up, etc) but at this point in time he wouldn't shoot an animal, he would just be out in the woods with dad when he's hunting.

So do you think it's okay for a 3 1/2 year old to go on a short hunting trip?

Story posted on Yahoo news May 25: Three hunters were hunting wild pig in the southeast US. Two adults armed with high powered rifles, and a young child armed with a high caliber pistol. The pig weighed over 1000 pounds. The boy shot the pig 10 times with the pistol, and tracked the pig for over three miles before executing the animal with a final point blank shot. Bear in mind the adults said they were always ready to dispatch the animal with their high powered rifles IF the pig turned and charged. I am no hunter, but seems to me the hunting ethic should be dispatch the prey quickly and as painlessly as possible. Guess there are no animal rights laws covering such behavior?

i have a savage model 111 bolt action 300 win mag, i am urrently thinking whether or not to basically dump a half paycheck into this gun. it currently shoots 1/2 groups at 100 m with a 50 dollar simmons scope. would it be worth the money to add a better stock, float the barrel, lap the bolt, lap the rings, glass bed and pillar bed the action, and finish the stock for around $500? would the outcome out weigh the cost or is it good enough. i will use this rifle for everything from whitetil hunting in nc,tx,nv and elk and sheep in nv.also the scope would go.
