Hi i'm new at fishing. The lake where we went today and yesterday is noted as having "abundant panfish". So we went out today with small hooks and tried bread. corn, and worms as bait. We didn't even get a bite! I am very discouraged as I have read people saying it is extremley easy to catch panfish. Any tips?

I'm guilty, though it was a case of forgetting to smash some barbs down, I was ticketed once. but in a previous question someone posted this:

"The rule is BS and I simply don't follow it. I don't keep the fish I catch anyway. I just don't follow the regulations if this stupid rule is in place......"

these rules are almost always in place to protect native fish populations or to help a struggling fishery recover, these regs always lower fish mortality rates, & usually after about 3 years result in much improved fishing, not only more fish but often much bigger fish. why then can't we respect the regs? are we that selfish?

I am going fishing in a lake. Many tell me that there is mostly bass and trout. At the local bait shop, although my heart was set on powerbait, the man insisted that nightcrawlers were the way to go! Ewwwwww! Ah well. I heard rolling the worms in sawdust make them less icky--but will it affect the yummyness for the fish?

Does bass like worms more or trout? And what waters do the fish prefer? I believe that the trout loves the shady areas and bass near the warm surface. Can someone please clarify?

Also, I am going to bring tortilla dough and cheese as bait. Oh! Also and mini-marshmallows. Please. May I take your tips and answers?! Also, correct any of my info if it is not right.

Thank you so much. Good luck on all of your further fishing endeavors!

Hi, I just started fishing and the DNR site says this one lake mostly has panfish. What are they? Are they good to eat? And what kind of bait should I use to get them/what techniques should I use? I haven't been fishing since I was a kid so im kind of lost.
