I am going fishing in a lake. Many tell me that there is mostly bass and trout. At the local bait shop, although my heart was set on powerbait, the man insisted that nightcrawlers were the way to go! Ewwwwww! Ah well. I heard rolling the worms in sawdust make them less icky--but will it affect the yummyness for the fish?
Does bass like worms more or trout? And what waters do the fish prefer? I believe that the trout loves the shady areas and bass near the warm surface. Can someone please clarify?
Also, I am going to bring tortilla dough and cheese as bait. Oh! Also and mini-marshmallows. Please. May I take your tips and answers?! Also, correct any of my info if it is not right.
Thank you so much. Good luck on all of your further fishing endeavors!

Tortilla dough...now there's a thought! Maybe a little green chili stew to spice it up a bit? Your ideas and info seem appropriate enough to catch even the most wary trout in cold water.
Nice trip and FISH ON!

Trout prefer cool water, and in the summer you will find them in shady areas and deeper than the bass, but if a cool creek is flowing into the lake fish for trout near where the creek goes into the lake. Instead of bait, try size 2 Blue Fox spinners, Gold is my favorite color.
I catch lots of trout every year with them, just be careful not to snag them. When you are new at it you will lose more than when you get good. Cast close to logs and try to make the spinner look like a minnow trying to get away from the big fish, but don't retrieve it too fast. Let the fish have a chance to bite, but not enough time to really think about it.
Good luck, and remember to thank God when you catch a big one!

I'm not sure about the Bass water temp thing, but you're Trout info sounds about right. I don't live in a tropical zone, so all fish in my area pretty much prefer cooler water (a hot beating sun is great for morale, but doesn't do much for the fish here, so shady areas is also a plus). I'd also stick to worms dear. Your Mexican treats & hot-chocolate floaters won't last long in the water.

I've never lake fished for trout. I grew up in Oregon, and always caught them in the river. My brothers always told me to be quiet, and not let my shadow hit the water. I found the best way in the river, was to use velveeta brick cheese. Sometimes, I'd use bobbers, so I could see exactly where my line went.
One of the funniest things was using a long dangly sparkly earring on a bet. I caught more trout with that earring!! My brother Bruce used to tease me that it was fish bait, and it worked!
Patience and luck are the best bets.
Have tons of fun!!
PS If you want trout, worms work only if they are hungry. You would do better with lures and cheese!
Pay attention to the locals. They know what their fish like to bite on.

i would still take power bait, and if you take mini-marshmallows,take the ones that you can eat. make them the whites because they hold up better than the colored ones do. also take some meal worms
