personally I like going either really early in the morning or really late at night.
you can use almost any kind of bait try hotdogs, chicken liver, waterdogs, anchovies, crickets and bait like that.
I'm sure you will get some bites off what I just told you.
Happy Fishing!

Generally speaking the best fishing is usually early in the morning ( around sunrise) and late afternoon . Fish are normally active and feeding at these times. Not knowing what part of the country you live in keeps me from giving you an ironclad answer on bait but nightcrawlers and earthworms are general purpose baits that catch fish of all sorts. You can always try minnows , shiners , crawfish and crickets . If you want to catch catfish , try some stew beef chunks , chicken liver ,or commercially produced catfish bait such as powerbait.

Before the sun goes down is usually best, but it can be great in the morning as well. That's the absolute best time to go, but if there's a lot of fish, it can be good all day. The best bait is what they are feeding on.

Ok, you don't care what you catch but what species might be in the water you are fishing?
Without knowing that, I would say go in the morning, early. Use something with colour like a jighead or spinner, with the worm. Experiement with different colours, retrieves, depths.
Tell us what species are in there!

For catfish go around 5:30pm and use chicken liver. For panfish try red wiggle worms, they have more movement. Also you can try small or large minnows, you will be sure to catch some thing then. Make sure you check the hooks size also.

Well i always go at like 6A.M., I use night crawlers and wax worms with a size 6-8 hook and the best weather condition is either an over cast or light drizzle.
