For channel cats, I like fresh chicken livers or dead minnows.

For any other species, I like large live crayfish, or live bluegill/sunfish.

Channel cats are scavengers and eat primarily off the bottom. They take all kinds of baits readily and are very tasty fish if taken from clean waters.

All other species of cats are predatory and will rarely take anything that's not live. They are also a great eating fish, and will taste pretty good even out of less than perfect waters.

Dip the fillets in milk, roll em in crushed potato chips, and pan fry em up!

Like Eric said live bluegill for flatheads or cut bluegill for other varieties. And shad if you can catch them

If I dont catch a catfish in 30 minutes to an hour where I am fishing I move to another spot. If they are there and feeding they will eat bluegill or shad
