My uncle got fined 30 years ago and it was $75 then but these days I am not sure but I would think it would be much more.Just buy a license it is cheaper.

I dont know about NY but most states have a fine, then if you have fish they will charge you so much for every fish you have.
And then they can restrict your fishing priviliges for a certain amount of time as well depending on the offense.
And the fine can vary from saltwater or freshwater in some states

Along with the answers posted above, there's a good chance that ya' might have your fishin' equipment confiscated! I witnessed some tourists in AK., that had that happen and these DOUGHHEADS were sportin' Lamiglass and G. Loomis rods $$$ w/ Daiwa, Shimano reels respectively!!! I'm sure though that it varies from state ta' state. Sooooooo better safe than sorry ~ get a license ; )...

It's up to the judge to set the fine. If you get caught keeping restricted and small fish, the judge will fine you based on how many you kept.

i wouldn't risk the chance of losing all fishing equipment that you own if caught fishing without a license
