Me and my family love to fish for blue gill. Every year we travel around 600 miles to the UP just to go fishing. Some years we'll catch alot, other years we wont. We usually fish on a private lake that isn't fished very often and expectantly not for blue gill. It's a shallow lake with lots of weeds. we usually fish just outside of a weed patch and we use wax worms for bate. we use several different colored skirts. But we are not expert fisherman so does anyone know how to help us maximize our fishing fun? Like what time of day is it best to fish (we found that we only caught them at sunrise and sunset). Also how does weather play into it? and what are some other helpful hints and ideas for beter fishing?

I was reading an article in Shark Weekly where Joe Addicks said he drags his hemroids behind his boat while trolling for sharks. Is that legal ? He said that is the best chum you can use.

I've noticed on a lot of tackle the lead warning on the label. I never see anyone using any precaution when I'm out fishing. Should I be wearing gloves and washing my hands? Is this something most anglers take seriously? The labels say lead has been known to cause cancer in testing done in Calif.

I have been having a hard time finding hooks for the various fish I've been fishing for. The thing that confuses me is the hook sizes, for example (2) or (2/0). I know what the size 2 means, but what does the slash and the 0 mean on some hook sizes? I've seen 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 etc. Thnx for your input!

I Havent seen any bluefish for several years in Maine. I'm hoping to catch some this year without going too far off shore (I only have a 17 foot boat) I'd also like to find a good spot for Striped Bass thats easily accessable.

My friends and I have been planning a fishing trip for about a week. We planned on fishing off of a salt water pier. It started raining real heavy today for about 3 hours and then it stopped. How will that affect our fishing trip? Will the fish still bite or should we just plan on going another day?
