This past week I lost my Shakespeare Patriot fishing rod/reel to the depths of smith mountain lake, so I am in need of a new rod/reel, but I dont know what would be best for me. I fish for everything, but mostly bass. I dont want a really big pole, a 5 to 5 1/2 footer would be perfect. And I would prefer a pole under 50 bucks, a little bit over could possibly work out, though.

question: I got a ticket today for fishing without a recent fishing license. This doesn't involve driving, probation, or any of that, right? I've been told that I'll just have to pay a fine. Any help would be appreciated.

I went fishing last week at our local pier. I noticed the guy next to us had 5 hooks on his line. All 5 hooks were tied directly to his line with a weight at the bottom. What's the name of that setup or how can I set my line like that. (I didn't get a chance to ask him).
They were not the sabiki setup.
thanks in advance

I've heard people complain that Spiderwire is crap and Berkley usually has good stuff but I was curious what else would be some good options. Thanks!

For me, I dont' catch much most of the time but I still do it anyways. Sometimes I just like to get away from what bugs me and be by myself.

Whats in it for you?

we fish a man-made lake surrounded by about 100 luxury houses. it is connected to a nearby river by two canals. some people say the fish caught from it (largemouth bass, crappies and catfish) are safe to eat but some others say that, because of the chemicals that people use on the landscaping in people's backyards that can runoff into the lake, it is not safe. i've called the local county health department and they have no information. i don't see how it'd be any more harmful than eating fish from the farm ponds and sloughs here in the california central valley (which people do all the time).
