It depends. If you're running the boat yourself, trolling and looking for fish, it's a lot of work. If you've never done it before, I doubt you'll have much success.

If you're on a charter boat, go out and enjoy the boat ride, and when (if) there's a hookup, just do what the crew tells you to do and you'll get your fish. Generally marlin bites are few and far between, so charter boats do everything to make each bite count. They have the right tackle, they know what to do, so all you have to do is follow their instructions.

Marlin pull hard, but charter boats which specialize in them are equipped with fighting chairs, which make things a lot easier. A fighting chair makes it possible for someone in reasonable shape to pull as hard as the tackle (50 to 130 pound line) allows without wrecking his back. The charter boats generally follow hooked fish, which also helps a lot.

There are too many variables to your question. 1. If you are trying to catch Marlin yourself and your a beginer forget it. You could end up draging bait for weeks without any luck, and then you do not have the experience of what to do when you actually hook one. .2 If you go with a high priced fishing charter its pretty easy, depending on which species your after. If your on th East coast White Marlin ae pretty easy to catch and not as big as Blue Marlin which can be a chore to land, however an experienced fishing guide will coach you through it and they want you to ctch fish so they will do all they can to make it easy on you.

A real back breaker. You just need a strong back, sturdy line, and a huge fishing reel. Blue Marlins are larger than white marlins, but both fight.

As in hard fight or trying to catch and yes to both!We have had days we struggled to get one to strike or baits and days when we had no time to do anything but fight the fish release it and go for the next one.
Billfishing is fun and can be one of the hardest of the fish to get on top of but when it happens hold on for the fight of your life!
