Kind of like asking what is the best car. It really depends what you're doing with it. One car is better for speed, another for handling, another for pulling power, a fourth for rough roads, and still another for gas mileage. Anyone who thinks any one brand of rod is best for all fishing hasn't done enough different kinds of fishing (or has refused to try other brands of rods).

If you want a meaningful answer, specify the kind of fishing you're doing.

If you're strictly live bait fishing, there's nothing wrong with an Ugly Stik, but if you're jigging or fishing with rubber worms
a Loomis or St. Croix will be a much better choice.

I agree with Peter_AZ...but on the other hand...I gave thumbs up to the person that said "ugly stick". Because that's mostly what I use. Just feels right for me.

all above answers are ok, but ugly stick is the best all around rod. tried them all. been an avid ugly user for years.
