I'm trying to decide on a handgun for concealed carry and home defense. Currently, I'm trying to decide between a S&W Model 327 and a Springfield Armory 1911.

Which do you think is the best choice, and why?

Beyond that, which would you think to be the best ammunition choice for a concealed carry/home defense weapon oif either of these two calibers, and why?

I live in a state that doesn't allow you to purchase hollow point ammo legally. I carry a 9mm Glock and I've been told repeatedly that a 9 is only effective enough for self defense IF you use JHP bullets, and that you shouldn't trust your life with 9mm ball point ammo. I'm thinking about making the switch to a .40 or a .357 sig, but I am much more accurate with the G19. Does a 9mm really need hollowpoints to have effective stopping power?
If you don't feel the 9mm is a decent weapon what do you recommend instead?

My local supermarket sells cheese filled hot dogs, I know that cheese works well and so does hot dogs but do these stay on the hook well? What size hook do you use for catfish fishing and do you use a bobber if you are using piecies of a sardine or a piece of cheese filled hot dog? Or do you fish it on the bottom?

Hey all...

I'm looking for the name of a vintage fishing reel. I only have a vague memory of it from when I was a kid. It's shaped like a teardrop or a bulb, and has a square type of knob on the bottom of the "bulb." I'd like to try and find one for an upcoming birthday, but I can't ask my dad what kind it was, or it will ruin the surprise. Please feel free to write me back with your suggestions of what it might be.

Thanks for your help!

I have 4 Winchester rifles, all model 70's
300 rem ultra mag
7mm STW
7mm WSM
270 win

On the barrels this is what it says.... I went to the site of winchester and it was wanting me to figure out what type each was, I know nothing of guns, These belonged to my dads brother who passed away 2 days ago and I need an approximate resale value because the family is selling his belongings and putting it towards his funeral, If you can give me an approximate value for each gun it would be really helpful these are all new guns. Thanks alot

There are a few smudges that I can't get off by wiping and I don't think I should use water. Also, do I absolutely have to use oil afterwords or can that wait for a while?

I'm hoping to buy a 1911 soon, probaly a kimber. this will be my first handgun and my instructor for shotguns, who also teaches pistols, said i should start with a .22 to learn the fundamentals (form, grip, etc). Im hoping to buy the .45 pistol, and a conversion to the .22. Any suggestions on what brand of conversion kit and if so how much is it? It is going to be a full frame pistol, thanks

Do you think maybe there is a whole lot of cheating going on around here?

This girl I work with and am friends with and I were talking and it got to firearms at one point and she was saying how she's never fired a pistol before.

I'm looking to impress her and show her fun I offered to take her after work this week for a half hour or so, let her fire a few shots see what it's like.

Does this sound like a fun trick to pull on a new shooter? I was thinking... I have a Taurus .357 magnum 7 shot revolver.

Wouldn't it be funny if I let her go up and shoot it and load it so that her first 6 shots are some little barely any recoil at all .38 special shots and then for the last one put in the harshest .357 magnum load I can buy at the store there? She'll get quite a shock, maybe it will even fly out of her hands, something helarious like that.

Sound like a good trick?
