This is a re-post from another category:

I was gathering sticks for a bonfire over the weekend with my boyfriend in my backyard. We heard a distant neighbor firing a rifle. No big deal, I live in the country and target practice is common. However, we were terrified when we heard the whistling of a bullet go right past our heads! Immediately we talked to the police, and an officer came out and explained that the bullet was most likely over the trees and couldn't have hit us.

My question is- how close does a rifle bullet have to be to hear that distinct whistling? It sounded so close and was something I have never heard outside of war movies! But I'm convinced that the bullet was closer to us than the officer presumed. What do you think?

Are these immature eggs, a section of fat, a tumor, an abnormality of some other kind? Is this normal? In case you couldn't guess I do not fish that often and usually fish later in the year, so I don't know if that is why I have never seen anything like this before.

Ultimately is the meat of this fish fit to eat?
Thank you.

I have a Remington 870 shotgun with an 18 inch cylinder bore barrel. It can be used for skeet and trap shooting, but it is hardly ideal as the pattern generated is too wide to hit the birds at long range. Also, my nearest range won't permit barrels under 26 inches for their trap/skeet range.

Is it as simple as buying a new barrel online and installing it via the normal fieldstripping/cleaning method? That seems like it would work. Can anyone recommend what kind of chokes I should be looking at, or know good suppliers online?

Ive heard its possible, but i was wondering what they would have to do to the gun to make it that way, and no i dont want to make it fully automatic and no i dont want to kill people, im just curious

I know this doesn't really belong in this category but I figured if anyone would know about firearms, it's you guys here.

Please see my last question for details (although I warn you now it is long-winded!).

I need an example of a compact but common, and no-nonsense, sub-machinegun that would have been cheap and widespread throughout the 50s-70s. Uzi and AK are out but something very close would be ideal.

Any ideas? Thanks!
