Channel cats can be caught most any time of year except in extreme cold water conditions. The best time of year tends to be spring and fall followed by summer and lastly winter. Channel catfish favor crawfish and small fish (bluegill), so look for them at varying depths where there is rock or gravel that attracts the crawfish or other forms of cover that attracts baitfish and other small fish. In the warmer summer months catfish can be found in areas with moss, which they feed on.

I prefer for channel cats nightcrawlers or live creek chub minnows. i have been fishin for a LONG time and have caught my fair share on BIG fish!!! Fish the outflow of damns or spill ways with lots of weight since catfish are bottom feeders. Hook the minnows through the head, not the back and use a hook that has a small spinner for extra flash. the worms can be rigged the same way. these methods are also good for walleye, carp, drum(sheephead), and bass. ive caught fifteen 20-30 inch fish in 2 hrs using these methods adn bait. thats just catfish...if u r fishing a dam with many rocks around it and it is shallow (like i do all the time) try casting ur bait in pools that dont have much current or in the outflow beneath the dam. i dont recomend livers or crayfish since i catch more fish on worms and minnows. ive outfished many people who have used that bait. all crayfish do is catch snags.
GOOD LUCK AND TIGHT LINES!!!

Put a chicken liver and BIG night crawler on a treble hook. It works like a charm.
