Are these immature eggs, a section of fat, a tumor, an abnormality of some other kind? Is this normal? In case you couldn't guess I do not fish that often and usually fish later in the year, so I don't know if that is why I have never seen anything like this before.

Ultimately is the meat of this fish fit to eat?
Thank you.

I'm sure It's eggs as was your first thought.
The fish as well as the eggs are fine to eat.

They are eggs. The fish has yet to spawn this season. The meat from this fish is just fine. The size of the eggs will give you a better idea as to how close the species is to spawning.

Sounds like eggs, and this is the time of the year when you would find them.

The eggs would not affect the quality of the meat.

Enjoy!
