Alright, guys, I have been reading your responses for the better half of the year now, and I have to ask...

If you could pass on your experiences, and stories, lessons and wisdoms to lower belts, what would you tell them? (me).. You all obviously have experience in this, and you all bring different perspectives. In other words, I guess I want to know what you know (in a nutshell, I am a few years behind you guys!)

Hi,

There's this dude in my class whom I'm really not getting along with. A few times, we almost got into a fight. I predict that one day, we're probably gonna have a fist fight. But I haven't fought anyone in 3 years, and I don't really know any fighting skills. Plus he's taller than me, which puts me to a disadvantage.
I want to learn some good fighting skills/techniques which would ensure me victory. I seriously want to kick this guy's *** right now. :(

So can you suggest some strategies/moves etc? Or some website links on the matter would help.

PS: I'm 13 and he's 14 and a half. We're in grade 9

recently i joined my mom at selfdefense class and got totally humiliated by her. we were partners and had to hold each other, and try to free ourselves. we both struggled, but neither was able to overpower the other. but then my mom did something incredible...she raised her leg, and slammed her foot right into my balls! i felt a terrible pain and coudn’t move and was still holding my mom’s arms, so she kicked a second time! i went down and curled up. it felt like my testicles had exploded. my mom thought i was wearing a cup, but i didn’t. she was shocked and apologized. the instructor noticed what was going on, and they both helped me to get on my feet. the instructor was a very attractive woman, which made the situation even more embarrassing. she told me how to deal with the pain (breathe, sit upright) while my mom was holding my hand. later they both started to giggle and make jokes about it. i was embarrassed and had aching testicles for 2 days.

should i just forget about it?

Fedor is the #1 heavyweight in the world of MMA. Nobody will argue with you. It must eat at Dana every night knowing that no matter how many people he throws in the ring in the heavyweight division is #2 because his pockets arent deep enough... or simply that his unwillingness to negotiate is destroying the heavyweight division.

I am in TaeKwonDo. I really don't like going at all. I am a red belt and I am two belts away from black belt. I am really not wanting to go anymore. I have been going there for a year and a half and I just want something new. It has gotten me into really good shape. I don't want to quit because of the working out. I want to quit because its just not fun anymore. I am feeling a lot of pressure on this, my dad will call the school and tell them I am quitting. It would be a huge suprise because I have not shown any signs that I want to quit. But I do! If you need more details please ask and then edit your question. This is a tough decision! Please help! No stupid answers please! Thanks in advance!

I clearly have too much time on my hands but I was wondering:

What has a greater chance of knocking somebody down, a karate style straight punch (if right handed) or a right hook? And what would be more useful in a street fight scenario?

I know boxers favour hooks but if you watch martial arts films they always do straight punches.
Cheers!

I'm about 5'7'' and 14 years old. I weigh about 120, with some muscle. Oh, and I'm a girl. Am I built correctly to do karate? Some of my friends say I'm to tall. Another problem is that the cartilage in my knee joints is really worn down from my knees dislocating. Would this effect me at all or could it cause a serious injury?

title: monkey steals the peach

the individual gets down on one knee as one would do as they propose. the arms are swung like a windmill to block any incoming blows. the right hand is then cupped as the arm is swung, hitting the adversary in the crotch. the force lifts the opponent off of the ground. masters of the iron fist immediately close their hand in a deathgrip pulling the arm back to the thigh , effectively removing the genitals. death results from massive blood loss.

my links don't work but google the name and you should get a pic.

Need help here. I am thinking between a couple of professions in uni, and just need to ask a couple of questions. If I were to pick Dentistry, could I still engage in the full contact type martial arts, or any for that matter without risking a short career as a dentist?

I'm afraid I may injure my hands or even develop problems with it which may force me to stop my potential career. If it's possible, what arts would be best? If I can still do any full contact martial art, that'll be preferred, thanks.

I have seen boxers taking up the flat footed or planted approach before striking, my school goes for the light on the toes bouncing around approach. Can be sure that I read Bruce Lee advices against to much uneccessary movement, so what approach is the best? T.I.A.

You guys go to a community hall a couple of times a week and think you can hold you own in a street fight. You guys are idiots. I have seen and been in so many street fights and seen so many "martial artists" get their *** kicked. All those joint locks, pressure point strikes, throws and using your attackers power against them is allot is a load of bs. Street fights are over in seconds usually and how they are won is by something I call B.F.T (blunt force trauma). Street fights are always fist fights, there are no rules, you call do all the kata and practice all you like on each other but know it is all in vein. So to anyone out there who is serious about wanting to defend themselves go along to a boxing because everything you learn in boxing is applicable to the street, especially the defensive side of things. Martial arts are just a crock, all these places are after is your money and if you try to use any of this stuff ina real fight you will see that is absoultely USELESS
