whole bunch of ignorants round here.
All depends on skill and situation of the individual fighter.
Most likely in an open fight the samurai would beat the ninja hands down. But ninja were renowned for avoiding to fight in the open but live in the shadows. One must take a look at the historical background. In ancient japan the samurai were an elite warrior class. They trained themselves continuously in the perfection of their fighting skill. They lived by a strict honour code (bushido) which forbade them from anything than an honourable fight in order of their master. But of course a leader can not always resolve his affairs the honourable way. For this they brought the ninja into play. If the samurai were soldiers the ninja were bandits, rogue fighters. Ninja are often depicted as just elite assasins but that was far from all they did. Amongst the ninja there were assasins, thieves, spies, prostitutes and every other type and size of misfit that could serve a purpose to a land lord. Many of these people were ordinary civilians who trained themselves in fighting arts and subterfuge. The ninjas strength was invisiblity, they were part of the public (that's right the holywood image of the guy in the black suit would be a rare sight) . It would be rare for a ninja to engage in open combat. But again they were mostly civilians (a few were also former samurai) that worked as ninja on the side. They relied on cheap weaponry that was disposable where as the samurai only relied on top quality weapons. As said a samurai would usually beat a ninja one hand tied behind his back in an open fight. If ever they got to have an open fight

It depends, if the Samurai and the Ninjas met on a battlefield, the Samurai would most definitely win. However, if the Samurai were attacked by surprise, the Ninja would claim many Samurai.

On an average I would say Samurais, but if you throw in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then it's over for the Samurai!

it depends on the conditions. in a straight up battle? DEFINITELY the samurai. in like a warehouse or something with stuff to hide behind, i'd bet on the ninja. the difference is, samurai are warriors, who specialized in fighting, where ninjas didnt train fighting so much as stealth. so once again, "what's better ninja's or samurai" is much too general. you have to go into the specifics a bit.

A Geisha beats both Samurai and Ninja anytime. Just send your Geisha to entertain the enemy Samurai General and she'll hang him on the ceiling with her lute strings and take care of any Ninja in the vicinity as well : P

We have taken the head of the enemy Taisho!! Without leadership, his armies will be in chaos!!
Anyway, to the original question, Stephen Turnbull has written a very good book regarding the ninja and their role as retainers to the samurai titled "Ninja". Suggest you read it. The quality of the samurai and the quality of the ninja dictate the otcome...

whoever thinks that samurai is ninja gets kick in the head... ninja is samurai rebels and samurai will never disgrace their belief and become a ninja. Here a scenerio lets put a samurai with his katana and a ninja with his ninja sword and who wins SAMURAI DOES!! want know why its because ninja only trains in stealth and not sword fighting. and when it comes to throwing darts and stars a samurai master can able to play baseball with it any time. because samurai have the quickness of useing a katana and knowing where the darts and stars are comeign from.

I dont think there is a better here, just different.
If its on the battle field i would say the ninja would probably be disadvantaged when faced with an armored samurai.
If its in the middle of the night then the samurai may be disadvantaged when faced witha a quick and quiet stealthy opponent.
Also, depending on the person the outcome may be different. its how you use a style to your advantage, not what style it is.
