my friends have said to me that fedor emelianenko(pride heavyweight cahmpion), success was mainly because of his perfect conditioning, he never gets tired in fights and he has skills too, and my muay thai coach said that most pro mma fighters lose fights due to poor conditioning, is this true?

It's BOTH AND. If you don't have skills, you're going to get spanked right off. If you're not in good shape, you're going to get spanked a few minutes later. Winners have both.

I think if you look at Fedor's fighting style that is one of the reasons why he does not get tired along with his training. You have to remember that many of his fights don't go the distance and the few that have that he has lost while he looked a little tired and battered he was obviously in good shape. Most anyone would look a little tired after three hard rounds of fighting.

I think a more accurate way to say it is that a good pro fighter should never lose a fight due to poor conditioning and/or lack of training. The only exception to this would be if a fighter is injured and can not train to his maximum ability before a fight. Training and conditioning is one of the few things that a fighter has direct control over as far as himself goes. If you as a fighter come to the ring ready, in better condition, and better trained than the other fighter you have a big edge in winning the fight but no guarantees by any means that you will. This is one of the things that helps to make a fight more interesting and more of an undecided contest as to who will actually win at the end and have their hand raised.

you could be the most well conditioned athlete in the world and still end up in a front chock or take a knee to the chin within a minute of the opening bell.

Fedor wins because of several factors. His gameplan his topnotch, his skill sets are top three in mma, he never EVER loses his cool in a fight, and because he is well conditioned.

I would say most pro mma fighters lose because they haven't trained properly but that's not just about conditioning. There are great fighters who don't have good gas tanks but more often than not the great fighter with poor cardio will beat the average fighter with great cardio. Developing solid skill sets is the most important component to being a top-level MMA fighter though some cardio is essential.

Conditioning is a HUGE factor in MMA. The other factor is Situational Training. This is practicing various moves, both offense and defense, until they become automatic. Most fighters when their matches because they are placed into a position that they have rehearsed many times before and their body takes over in a knee-jerk response. Watch the next match. Although the fighters will have a game plan, watch for there responses to certain position that they get into. You will have a better understanding on how an opponent who is getting beat becomes the winner through a tapout situation.

Well it definitely helps being in good shape, if I were you I would do a good bit of conditioning, but you can be in the best shape in the world and still not win because you have no skill, no practice. You have to have a good balance, be in good physical condition and know what you are doing. Getting tired at the end of your match is a problem you do need to be in good condition, but remember that that means cardio and strength training, not one or the other. One fighting tactic that often works is play defense for a while, and let the other person tire themselves out and them get them.

Conditioning is one of the major factors of being a great fighter... just look at WEC Champ Urijah Faber! He is a great wrestler and submission fighter, but everyone still talks about his conditioning

it sure can help. i mean shogun vs forest griffin, shogun should have been the better more experienced fighter. but his conditioning was horrible and he looked sloppy and got submitted

but another thing you have to realize is that even though you maybe well conditioned getting hit takes away from your stamina

Yes, but also having good technique especialy in wrestling will help you alot to conserve energy, conditioning alone wont do it, every little thing counts
