in Karate can somebod tell me what "Kara" means, what "te" means and what "do" means. thx

The original term for this art was Toudi. This is in the Okinawan language. It means China Hand.

Later on the character for China was replaced for the character for 'void', 'vastness', 'expansion'. It is misinterpreted as "empty", but this was cleared up by Master Shoshin Nagamine, founder of Matsubayashi Ryu and MA Scholar.

So 'kara' means vastness, like space. It is continuous, never-ending.

'te' means hand. It is pronounced 'ti( tee or dee depending on how it is used grammatically).

TE is pronounced tay in japanese it is pronounced tee only in the okinawan hogen dialect in which the characters are written ti not te

Kara - "empty"
te - "hand"
do - has multiple meanings, but is generally used as "path" or "way"
