This isn't a complete list, but right now we have:
2 Franklins,
1 REW Reynolds (my touring bike...good for long distances),
1 Lotus (my "baby" pearl black and kind of a salmon color),
1 Cannondale,
1 Mercian,
1 road-style Raleigh,
2 british-built Raleigh 3 speeds (ugly now but good commuters),
1 Eddy Merckx,
1 Peugot.

There's a lot more, but I'd have to go actually look to tell you what the are. Hubby has been in the bike field for about 35 years and once owned his own shop in New Orleans!

currently have a older specialized hardrock sport. Got it as a kid ~ 12 yrs ago.

I want a lighter bike more friendly for daily rides to class and around town, up and down hills.

While being lightweight I also want to be able to hit the dirt roads now and then. I hardly ever ride any tough trails but road bikes are out because weekend trail rides are fun and good excercise.

I'm having a hard time deciding on which bike would be best for me. Lightweight is definitly ontop of the list, I know that

and I want another Specialized ...so which one seems right for me?

You guys all seem to know a lot

and if this matters I'm about 130 lbs

I would like to start up biking again (haven't done so since my teens) mostly just for some exercise. I plan to use it mostly on the dirt roads near my house, some on pavement to get there, and maybe some trails once I get into it. I doubt I will be doing any real rough type terrain. There are very few bike shops around here and the one I stopped at recently had nothing under $500, so I may be stuck with getting one from like Target. I hope to only spend around $300 or is this just not possible.

I am hoping to get an inexpensive off the rack type of bike at a local store. I would like to cycle around the neighbourhood with the family and to a few local places. I have tried many bokes this weekend. I tried many 26" wheels in all shapes and sizes but they were all too tall. I tried both ladies and unisex bicycles. My feet just could not reach the ground. I did not even have the flexibility to get on and off these bikes easily. However the 24" bikes are too small. When I sit on them, they feel much more comfortable and I feel more stable. However, in order to ride them, my knees have to rise way to high when I cycle. I did not have the flexibility to ride these bicycles easily. I am 5'3". I would like to know what sort of bike and size to look for.

I want to buy a beach cruiser but I don't know how to stop that bike without hand breaks. I have not been riding a bike for years and this is my first time to get a cruiser. Please don't look down on me, I just want a clear answer so I can be sure I will be safe when I ride the bike. Thanks!

I am thinking of getting a Next PowerX 26" Mens bike from walmart. However, after reading reviews, I'm having second thoughts. Is there a pretty good alternative that doesnt cost significantly more?

And what do you think of Mongoose bikes? Are they good?

Ok I'm pretty much at my wits end. Posted another question in here but still am as confused as ever.
Speaking of 07 models only. If you have an older fisher or trek, your answer will be invalid as things have changed ALOT in recent years.

So if you were I, which bike would YOU buy if:
-You ride on very smooth long straight single track mostly.
-You will ride on the road a bit also.
-You want to be able to hit the hard stuff (stumps, rocks etc)

The trek 6000 geometry and the fisher piranha seem about the same, although many say the fisher is different.
The fisher wahoo has lesser components than the Piranha, but all in all, for $100 cheaper have pretty decent stuff on it. I believe the Dart 1 rock shok has better reviews thant he axel does on the piranha. The derailers aren't that bad as the rear is both deore on both bikes, Alevio for the front on the piranha, acer on the front for the wahoo. In my experience, there isn't much difference.
The trek overall has nice stuff.

I recently found I bike that I like quite a bit-- the cannondale 400 Comfort-- however, I hate that the shifting is accomplished by twisting the handle grips. The bike shop attendant told me that for an extra 60 bucks they could put on trigger shifters (so basically it would be a button trigger). My question is if this seems reasonable of an enhancement to a bike and if it really will hold and work or if this is like installing after factory parts on a car that never work the same. I don't want this to be the area where I constantly regret purchasing this bike.
