Can anyone recommend a resource – web, book or otherwise – that will give me some insight into training for cycling – technique, endurance building, speed.

I’m more than apt enough to just get out there and do it, but want to know a little bit more about milestones, routines, etc.

Thanks in advance.

I just recently tried to fix an older bike that had a bent derailer and i got another 10 speed and swapped the derailers. The bike doesnt shift properly and the chain seems to skip. I'm not sure if maybe i have the chain through the derailer wrong or if the chain itself is bad? Can anyone end my headache.

Recently bought carbon fiber handlebars for my road bike and do not want to damage them by putting them on with the stem that I had with my Alu bars. Is there a stem made specifically for carbon that is affordable, or does it matter? I bought the Teknix Pro Light handlebars on EBAY.

The gym I use has lifecycles with the wide seats. I generally sit straight up to keep good posture (bad back). There are no sit down bikes. After even 20 min, the blood flow to my nether regions is entirely cut off. I would like to keep the bike in my repretiore of cardio workouts, but this is way to unconfortable and disconcerting to continue. Does anyone have advice?

by an old tennant who's moving abroad. It's a 2002 Specialised Rockhopper A1 Comp. It's got Deore XT drivetrain and manitou forks, with Avid V brakes as opposed to the Disc that features on later models.

The forks feel a bit stiff and are in need of a service, can i buy kits to refurb them? Without pulling the caps off I cant tell if they're elastomer, air/oil or coil sprung, and I don't know even which manitou forks they are.

Can anyone help or point me in the direction of where I can buy service kits?

I just purchased a used bike from a nice person I found on Craigslist. It is a Specialized "Hard Rock" mountain bike. I am only using it for commuting from the BART station to my job in San Francisco (yes, I live in the Bay Area). The bike is actually in decent shape, but it does need new tires (I knew this going in to the deal). The seller told me that I have about 2 months left on them, but I'd rather be safe then sorry. Other than that, I'd like to have a bike pro give it a good once over with a tune up, just for peace of mind. How much should i be prepared to pay for 2 new tires (nothing fancy-just enough to get me around town) and a tune up? Also, for anyone living in Oakland- can you suggest a good bike shop?

Anyone have any experience with tire liners (such as Spin Skins) or tubeless tires in order to prevent flat tires during a ride? Are they a good investment? Any pros/cons that you'd like to share? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looking to upgrade to Ergo/STI system from "classic" friction gear levers and standard brake levers. Looking at 10 speed. From what I make out, I need a new rear mech, new wheels to hold the new cassette, a new chain and of course the levers. Having a rough price up, Campag & Shimano similar in price until you come to levers. Can pick up Campag Xenon for £45 while the Shimano come in at about £120. I appreciate the Campag are bottom of range but big price difference. From a users point of view and to someone that is still stuck in the 80's, how easy are these systems to work and what essentially is the difference between the Campag & Shimano? I'm looking for a system that will enable me to change up and down gears whilst on the hoods, in and out of the saddle and that are comfortable. Was going to keep everything one make but is there anything else I need to consider? I was looking to put these on my "old" Colnago which has "old" Campag throughout already. Also easy to self-fit? Cheers
