Can anyone recommend a resource – web, book or otherwise – that will give me some insight into training for cycling – technique, endurance building, speed.

I’m more than apt enough to just get out there and do it, but want to know a little bit more about milestones, routines, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Friels book is great advice. Also think about 'Bicycling Magazine's Complete Book of Road Cycling Skills'. Also, Bicycling magazine always comes out with those cheezy one month training programs, but there is alot of good advice included for novice riders. It might be worth a subscription. Stay away from the lance armstrong 7 week training program book. I don't know who wrote it, but it's a shame to see lance's name on it.
If you feel like spending a little bit of money, you might want to invest in a coach. There are hundreds of people out there who will put together a training program based on your work/life schedule, ability, and goals. Go with one who is not specifically race oriented but has racing experience. Try here

You'll most likely be able to find one in your area.

Check out Greg Lemond's book from several years back. It may sound a bit dated but i really agree with his use of micro and macro cycles to really improve performance and peak at the right times.

The Cyclist's Training Bible by John Friel. Although he's a multi-sport kind of guy, the book is good.

i've got not been on a custom for a protracted time now, yet i assume if I ever do commute for the time of the practice contained in the close to destiny, i'd desire to make sure an exciting novel. Now that I think of it, it style of feels like some thing i'm going to heavily look ahead to.
