by an old tennant who's moving abroad. It's a 2002 Specialised Rockhopper A1 Comp. It's got Deore XT drivetrain and manitou forks, with Avid V brakes as opposed to the Disc that features on later models.

The forks feel a bit stiff and are in need of a service, can i buy kits to refurb them? Without pulling the caps off I cant tell if they're elastomer, air/oil or coil sprung, and I don't know even which manitou forks they are.

Can anyone help or point me in the direction of where I can buy service kits?

take it to a local shop and they will fix it up good for ya, whether you want to keep it or sell it. Specialized bikes are pretty sweet. that fork is most likely a dual coil with elastomer or single coil with hydraulic damping. you only find that elastomer crap on walmart bikes.

but it wold be best to have a shop tune it up for you, unless you know a good deal about bike. if your asking this question, then im going to assume your not experienced in bike mechanics. depending on how out of whack it is, a tune up will cost $50-$100, with parts on top of that.

Manitou suspension forks are made by Answer. You can find their website on the page below. I would surf around and try to find out what model you think you have. Then go to a bike shop and see if they can order parts for this model. Distributors stock a ton of replacement parts for these forks because they take a lot of abuse.

best bet is to take it to your local bike shop for a tune up
should cost between 60 and 75 bucks for everything
if the fork needs a rebuild, you can ask them to order the parts for you (if it can be done)

Good, nice bike.

In my opinion:
Your best bet is to take it to a good bike shop. It is worth the time and money.
