I mean, they both made stupid mistakes that pretty much cost them their careers; the only difference is that the media tore Raffy apart, while Marky-Mark is still sittin' pretty with a possible Hall of Fame nomination. I, for one, think this is beyond rediculous.
Rafael Palmeiro is one of few players in the history of baseball to have at least 3000 hits and 500 home runs. He's just never been a media-central player (until his debaucle, that is).
Mark McGuire is known mostly for being a slugger and breaking the single-season home run record.
Does this mean that hitting a lot of home runs in one season means more than a solid, 20-year career? If you study both of their careers, Palmeiro outshines McGuire in every offensive category (except home runs, slugging and OBP).
Does anyone have a (hopefully non-biased) answer as to why anyone would prefer McGuire being in the Hall over Palmeiro?
