The Mets. We have an extremely good lineup and a great defense. People don't give our starting rotation any credit. We have the money to spend and the players to replace if anyone were to get hurt. We porbally would of one it this year if it wasn't for a heart breaking homerun by Yadier Molina in Game 7. But that was in the past and I am looking foward to the season starting over again.

Yeah it is early but who wouldn't want to see the Tigers win it. Maybe that's just the life long die hard tiger in me but really, the classic underdog story. Also the best pitching staff in both leagues. Zumaya, bonderman, rogers, ledezma, robertson... they are all very good to have all on one roster. Plus the new addition Gary Sheffield, he has a beeter slugging percentage than any player on the team and they made it to the world wseries, it can only get better right? Well, maybe not, but still, everyone would be satisfied with the long anticipated Tiger win.

I know it sounds weird, but I have to go with the A's too. When everybody discounts them and says that they're unloading too much (like they're saying again this year), the A's always answer back with a playoff run. I think this year, they have extra motivation to avenge their ALCS loss last year.
They still have good starting pitching with Harden and Haren. Bradley should have a breakout year, and Swisher should regain the momentum that he had earlier last year. This is a very good defensive team, and if they put up some hitting and some lights-out pitching (which they're very capable of ) at the end of October, the A's will see themselves staring at a World Series trophy.

I'm really not a fan of any team that has JD Drew, but I think the Red Sox look pretty good with their hitting if they don't trade Manny and their rotation looks pretty strong up front. If Schilling is healthy and Matsuzaka pans out as expected, that could be dominant enough to win a short playoff series. They need to solve their bullpen problem though. If Lester is healthy I think they should move Palpelbon back to the bullpen.
The Dodgers look good as well. This partly depends on how well the young prospects and rookies do. If they are ready to contribute even more this year they could go far, even to the championship. Key players to watch will be Betemit at third base, the outfield prospect Kemp and if future third base star LaRoche. If they are not ready to contribute yet then the Dodgers are looking to making a serious playoff run in 2008. A healthy Jeff Kent will replace Drew's lost production. Their rotation with Schmidt, Lowe and Billingsley could also be good enough to win a short playoff series. If Penny is healthy it could also be a big difference and if they trade him for a big bat that could also be a big factor.
I'm sorry I don't see the A's as doing it. I don't think Piazza can replace Frank Thomas' 39 home runs and 119 RBIs at this stage in his career. They were incredibly lucky last year that the old Frank Thomas decided to show up and carry their team but I don't think that history will repeat itself. Nick Swisher is a good player but I don't think he alone can carry the team offensively. I no longer count on Crosby to stay healthy or become the offensive force he was once projected to be. I am now skeptical about Eric Chavez and if he was tied to the whole Giambi scandal. The loss of Zito will hurt them most because of the innings he ate up. Harden looked like he was going to be a top pitcher but with his health issues it is uncertain if he can replace the lost Zito innings. Starters Blanton and Loiaza had ERAs over 4.8. I don't think with their starters they can win a short series, even if they won the division.
The Yankees, Angels, Tigers and the Marlins could also be tough to beat depending on how things fall their way, because all have pitching.
The issue with the Mets is the question marks in their rotation. Their hitting is well balanced and in my opinion the best in baseball. Their starting rotation is not deep enough to carry them into the playoffs and to win a short series. Glavine and Hernandez are older and injury risk is great. With Maine, Perez, and Pelfrey who are currently projected as their #3, 4,and 5 starers at the end of the rotation, this does not look promising. More resources should have been put to building their pitching staff instead of their hitting. If they do end up trading Milldege for Dan Haren, this would help them but they still don't look to match up with the above teams in a short series.

im not really sure since its so early but if i to take a guess id say the dodgers they have made a ton of moves such as aquiring great pitchers in jason schmidt and randy wolf. Also they have managed to pick up a few good hitters as well like luis gonzalez and mike liberathal and signing the speedy juan pierre plus they resigned nomar

Why the Yankees of course. They haven't won since 2000. I am sick and tired of waiting. I want to see them win. I want to go to a Yankee parade in Manhattan. I want to shut up our critics once, and for all, and prove that we can do it again.
