It's a classic rival confrontation that not only Yankee and Red Sox fans get up for, but all true baseball fans get up for as well.

I think you answered your own ? there is always a storyline when these two teams meet. I love it when the Red Sox and Yankees play, and really love it when I get to attend the game. The excitement is like no other sporting event I have ever attended. Except, World Series Games and even then I'm not sure. It is a long standing tradition to root for your team that is usually handed down through the generations here on the upper East Coast. Fans on both sides take their team love with them no matter where they move. The hype gets people I know who don't even like baseball talking and watching. You can even feel it coming through the TV. lol
Nothing like Boston vs. New York to get things going. Just my opinion. Probably different in other parts of the country.
Oh, the Yanks do obviously have more rings but .....the Red Sox do win their share or you would not feel the need to make such comments.

I agree that they are a good rivalry just like the Cubs and Cards, but i will say after living all over the Midwest and west coast most people tend to hate the Yankees and when you meet a Yankee fan they tend to be just another band wagon fan from the late 90's that doesn't even watch baseball, then on the other hand the whenever i run into a Boston fan (which is less often) they tend to be way more knowledgeable and could tell you everything you wanted to know about anyone in baseball, but for me i personally hate hearing about either of the teams and think the whole American league sucks (let your pitchers hit)!

Absolutely! As a retired media person it always made good copy plus it sells tickets. The fact that both teams are within close proximity to each other makes for an outstanding rivalry. I found that what fuels the rivalry is the Boston fans who have an inherent hatred of the Yankees mainly caused by envy and a certain amount of jealousy. Yankees fans, for the most part, just laugh at Boston fans because they have nothing to prove. When you think about it the rivalry hasn't been much of a rivalry at all. Do the math!!

I truly believe it is great for the game. Ever since Babe Ruth was bought from the Sox the rivalry started and will last forever. If you are a fan of the game,no matter where you live, you still have to love the rivalry, the fans, and the game the teams put on. GO YANKEES !!!!!!!!!!

Definetly. It makes reading a newspaper sports section fun. The rivalry is the biggest in all of sports and every year there's always a new twist. This year its Matsuzaka.
I can't wait.

It's good for baseball on the East Coast and in the American League. Other than that, no one out in the hinterlands really cares.

Yes, first of all, the huge rivalry makes people buy things to show which side they support..
Secondly people will pay just about anything to see these two teams
Third, and probably most important...any publicity is good publicity
