I'm glad that the sportswriters agree with America so far that he doesn't deserve the HOF. Let's hope that they keep to their initial instincts for years to come.

As an Athletics fan, I probably have the strongest interest towards Mark McGwire's Hall of Fame bid. When he was on the A's, we loved him. He helped bring home the 1989 World Series. When he left for St. Louis and broke the single season home run record, we were even more ecstatic.

However, even A's fans aren't too happy with the revelation that he took steroids. He cheated and that's just plain wrong. He probably helped Giambi get interested in steroids and according to the book, Game of Shadows, was the inspiration of Barry Bonds to take steroids.

When McGwire refused to testify at Congress, he embarassed both himself and his former teams. He definitely should not get into the Hall of Fame!

I think Mark McGwire should make the Hall of Fame and it hypocritical on so many levels that he will not. Bill Simmons article best sums up my views and I have also include my link of Voters that have and have not voted for McGwire

And?

Not every player is elected the first time they're on the ballot.

There are about 575 voters, so those polls mean nothing. Candidates who appear on less than 5% of the ballots cast are dropped from future ballots.

If you have an actual argument one way of the other about McGwire and the HOF, then please state it.

If in the Congressional hearings when he was asked if he took steroids, instead of saying that I'm not going to talk about the past, he could have said: "OK, I took the Andro, it was legal back then, and I thought nothing of this was going to happen", I'm sure a lot of people would have forgive him, along with community service teaching young kids about the danger of steroids, surely he would have been a Hall Of Famer on the first ballot.

I'm happy to hear this.. The guy hit 70 homers in 509 at bats. he followed that up with 65 homers in 521 at bats. How about 32 homers in 239 at bats when he was 36 years old. Jeez! It used to take Reggie Jackson, who was built like a tank and as a left-handed hitter, at whole season to get to 32!! I'm glad the voters are paying attention to the steriod issue on this so maybe there's hope.

tough one, He was alway one of my favorites growing up just like Canseco, Dawson, Will Smith, Ozzie Smith, Sandberg, Ryan, and many others too many to mention. Yeah I wish he would go to the hall of fame, but their is a huge cloud of doubt around him especially after he testified to congress (that was embarrassing the way he reacted even if you were not a fan of his), yes their is a great possibility that he used steroids, but i would hate to condemn someone for something that was not proven, and on the other hand I do not want to praise him for records he didn't earn. I can say this when he played for the first half of his career at least he did alone on that would have earned himself a spot in the hall of fame, but with the shadow of steroids later in his career the light looks a bit dimmer. Just makes me wish they had stronger testing in sports long ago to weed out the bad few who have tarnished the names of others. i would say who they are if i knew a 100% (not taking sides with Big Mac, even though i would like to)

Thoughts? Isn't he on the ballot? I think he is.
He won't be voted in because of obvious issues with steroid use. Frankly, who cares? This whole HOF is a non-issue. Baseball needs to be more concerned with why no one watches the World Series anymore with those pathetic TV ratings.

I am sad about it but if he was in that huge scandal with steroids then maybe he doesn't deserve the honor.
Why would he even be included in it IF he didn't do it?
Thats what i don't understand. I don't think anyone will know but McGwire himself.

i don't think of he will make in on the 1st poll. he will have the flexibility to be elected on 2013 and in that pollthere are some actual HOFs: Mike Piazza, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds and Craig Biggio. Biggio and Piazza will make it for helpful. Sosa, Bonds and Clemens are all linked to HGH and that total tale. Sosa did have a competent volume of hits (2408) for a ability hitter. He might desire to head into in his 2nd attempt or previous, he has 15 possibilities.

He shot his record into his arm and out his azz. His record should be revoked and he should be banned forever. Baseball is America's Game and it is touted up to all little boys and this is the example McGwire set. Ban him NOW and good riddance. Drugs are not it.
