If the Twins/Tigers tie the AL Central, the tie-breaker is determined based on who won the season series (the Tigers). If the Padres/Dodgers tie the NL West, the tie-breaker is determined based on a tie-breaker game. Why? What's the difference?

Last year the Yankees and the Sox ended the year with both 95 wins. Suppose the next year, (God forbid) the Jays and the Sox have the same record as the Yankees, and the Wild Card team again comes out of the central, having more wins then the Yanks, Sox, and Jays. What exactly happens? A three team playoff doesn't seem fair because one team will play 1 game, and 2 teams will play two games-- thereby increasing the chance for elimination. Just wondering what happens...

I'm hoping dodgers will make the playoffs but i think it will be the mets and yankees. I was going to say the mets win the world series, but they lost their best pitcher so I think the yanks will take the title.
