Last year the Yankees and the Sox ended the year with both 95 wins. Suppose the next year, (God forbid) the Jays and the Sox have the same record as the Yankees, and the Wild Card team again comes out of the central, having more wins then the Yanks, Sox, and Jays. What exactly happens? A three team playoff doesn't seem fair because one team will play 1 game, and 2 teams will play two games-- thereby increasing the chance for elimination. Just wondering what happens...

They will look at records first as to how well they did against each other

They play an odd number of games against each other, so I guess what would happen is the team who won the most games againts the other two teams combined would win the division. If the Wild Card came from the east, I guess they would play an elimination game. I'm not sure though. Don't worry, the Red Sox won't be in the top of the American League East until we are dead.

It would very unlikely for this scenario to occur, but there's a big tiebreaker system in place... basically they'd look at all the season series, and if one team beat both of the others in the season series, they'd get one spot in the playoff, and then whoever won the season series between the two remaining teams would be the other spot in the playoff. While it's not impossible for this to happen, with the unbalanced schedule and every team playing something around 15-18 games against everyone in their division, for three teams to tie for their division... the chances are slim to none.

Coin flip determines who gets a bye. Other two teams play, then the winner plays the team with the bye.

If there is a wild card spot available, the coin flip determines wild card, other two teams play. Winner wins division, loser is out.

You meant divisional lead, not league lead.
