For L.A. -- Nomar was not only a catalyst in crucial wins, but may even win the "NL Comeback Player of the Year" award.

San Diego -- 3 standouts:

(1) Dave Roberts -- not only batted nearly .300, but was 2nd in the league in triples and stolen bases (49). Was an effective menace.

(2) Adrian Gonzales. Unheralded, but had a steady bat all season, batting .304 with surprising power. Equally important, his nifty glove at first base saved many runs.

(3) Mike Cameron -- Though not as consistent as the two, he was the hottest San Diego had in the final month, where San Diego won 21 of its final 30 games. Final week, Cameron supplied key HRs and extra base hits in crucial situations, including a game winner against Cris Carpenter.

(4) Trevor Hoffman. Hard to overlook somone who saved 46 games, more than half of the team's victories. His work ethic also inspired his mates in the bullpen.

For the Dodgers it has to be Nomar Garciapparra because he has hit 2 walkoff homers rite before the playoffs started and for the Padres it is probably Trevor Hoffman because he is one of the best closers in baseball today and if he was on a better team that could get a lead he would have lots of save and he barely ever blows a save.

Cookie Monster is right. The Padres have solid set up men in the form of Alan Embree, Scott Linebrink and Cla Meredith. If their starter goes 6, they can tough out a win.

With Gange becoming a lost cause, you have to go with the asian sensation: Takashi Saito

and to the retard that said "kalil greene, who else do they have?" they have the best closer in baseball history! Trevor Hoffman

the reason the closers are so important is because think of how many games in the playoffs are close down to the wire...coaches like to go there closers a lot earlier to get them out jams...with weak closers nomar could end the game with one swing of the bat...so closers need to be legit
