Hell he is the second best SS on his team, sure he has a good career bat average, but he definitely isn't a home run hitter. Who here thinks he is maybe only worth half that?

So some of you think he is better than say someone like Albert Pujols who only makes 14 million a year.

Youre clueless LMAO!! Derek Jeter is payed like that because he is the star SS of the NY Yankees, and has done more in pressure spots than Albert Pujols or Arod have done in there careers COMBINED!! I do not Argue Arod or Pujols as being AMAZING hitters and players, even pujols has become a really good 1B, but if you dont see Jeters value, then you are just clueless.... Now, is he worth 20 million a year, no! but i dont think ANYONE in baseball is worth 20 million dollars a year and that include Pujols, Manny Ramirez, Arod, and anyone else. And that He is the second best SS on his team is the stupidest fu**in thing ive heard because Arod is the 3B NOT the SS... and to be perfectly honest, with the problems mentally that Arod has had offensivly and Defensivly, i find it hard to believe that he wouldnt be a damn trainwreck at SS too. Get a clue Dude.

One word...Captain.
He has been the face of the Yankees organization for almost ten years. Guys have come and went with the Yankees, but only Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera have remained the constant. He is a very marketable guy. He is also pretty tight with a fairly rich man by the name of George Steinbrenner. He's a VERY quality player who has taken four World Series trophies to New York. He's won an all-star game MVP, a World Series MVP, a Silver Slugger Award, and three Gold Gloves. His "flip" in the 2001 playoffs remains one of the top five plays of all-time. Remember him diving into the stands a couple of years ago during a regular season game. He held onto the ball and had a bruised, bloody face to show for it. He puts his body on the line for the sake of his team. Not many players in baseball would have made that same attempt. Out of all the players to have signed $100 million contracts with, only Derek (4 times), manny Ramirez (1 time 2004), and Albert Pujols (1 time 2006)have helped their teams win a world series. (A-Rod, Todd Helton, Alfonso Soriano, Vernon Wells, Barry Zito, Mike Hampton, Jason Giambi, Carlos Beltran, ken Griffey Jr., Kevin Brown, and Carlos Lee have never won World Series but have still signed for $100mil+ contracts) . "Derek Jeter= wins" more so than any player currently in baseball.

Do any of MLB players deserve the money they make, no, but this is how the business works. You may think Jeter is overrated but home runs aren't everything. When Matsui and Sheffield were out look how high his RBI were, the 2nd most in his career. Also he has won 2 straight Gold Gloves and has always made big plays offensively and defensively when you need it. If it came down to a final at bat I would take Jeter over Pujols. Pujols is very good and very clutch but you can't ignore the things Jeter has done over his playoff career.

Derek Jeter doesn't meet standards he sets them. He is the standard in which ALL professional athletes should hold themselves upto, both as an individual & athlete! We pay to watch him play....if you don't think so, go to your nearest city that has a baseball team & get a ticket when the Yankees are in town....we buy his shoes, his jesey, & everything Yankees because of this guy. I would rather see a number of these players make millions than only 1 owner cash in & keep it all for himself!! This is a business which society feeds into through ticket revenue, commercials, TV ratings, appareal & everything else you can think of that brings revenue to these sports.

Teachers don't get paid this for that reason. If they could generate millions of dollars then yes they would get millions back!!! Derek Jeter works 10-12 hours a day during the season & most likely close to that in the off season & maybe more if you include appearences etc... If you think it is fun signing autographs for hours at a time then sign your own name for just 1 hour & see how much fun that is.

Sure he just plays "baseball"...a childs game...but why do we as adults follow these sports so passionately if they are just childs games? You see, he has a job that takes dedication, work & talent. We can't even get our lazy rears off the couch to lift weights or go for a run or particpate in a 6 game softball league over the summer.....so get off Jeter & the millions he takes home with him!!!

Sincerly,
The Derek Jeter Foundation!!!

I think all athletes, especially baseball players are over paid

but as far as by other athletes standards Jeter deserves every penny he makes and then some...He is by far the best player the yankees have, the best all around hitter, one of the best feilders and he is by far the unquestioned leader.

Why do you have such an unjusitifed hatred for him??

I cant beleive I just read someone calling Jeter average..... I must have stumbled into some dreamland where everything is backwards, let me guess, the red-sox are the best team in baseball in this world too??

He brings more to the Yankees than you're giving him credit for. He may be the 2nd best SS, in your opinion, on the team but his clutch bat and incredible plays are worth more than any other SS available. He just has an uncanny ability to get the hit when they need it or make the inning ending double play in a tight spot. Alex chokes when its on him.
There is no other player I would want on my team than Derek Jeter (and he only makes 18 million per year lol)

In Jeter's case i imagine he might want to take the money. after I see the figures, i don't experience the Yankees are figuring out to purchase his amenities in step with se. extra like figuring out to purchase the call of Jeter. Yanks followers love the guy and may want to you blame them? considering 'ninety six, the "Jeter era" has ruled very best in lengthy island. he's a legend, hall Of Famer and a gentleman in they eyes of the fan. yet at 36 can he extremely help a contender? In lengthy island, Jeter will stay a god yet everywhere else, a Kansas city or a Houston, his flaws will be considered and judged extra deeply and followers will quickly see he did not extremely deserve the 2010 Gold Glove he received. i wish he does nicely, and that i might want to favor to ascertain him get his 3,000th hit as a Yankee. I say take the money. Re-signal and proceed the full, un-tarnished legacy of that who's named Jeter.

Because he is worth it...pretty simple. He contributes both on and off the field. He is a class act representing baseball. That is coming from a Red Sox and Mets fan.

EDIT: why not just enjoy the game and respect the talents of great players, that is until they play your team(s) lol

He gets paid that much because he plays for the Yankees, who have cash to burn. That aside, he brings a lot of intangibles to the game. Most of Jeter's best contributions don't show up on the stat sheet.
