What really was it that caused the Red Sox to self-destruct in August? And what are their chances in '07?

He stopped playing in '03 with the Mets. Did he retire, or did something happen, like an injury or something?

Ironically enough, and as far as the "fast-paced-ness" of the game goes, I've always been more of a football than a baseball fan myself. Still, there is something profoundly spiritual / uniquely magical about baseball that one cannot quite encounter in any other (American) sportive activity. Why do you think that maybe the case? Is that because we all grew up with baseball? If so, the same argument can also be made for football and basketball, and yet they are not quite as spiritually charged as baseball. What is it about baseball that gives it its supernaturally charismatic charm?

How hard is it for scouts to see him and say "gee, he could be the greatest hitter ever". Maybe I should become a scout or something.

I'm a native St. Louisian, and I can't figure out what all this hype about a baseball team is about. I mean it's cool that we stick together and cheer on the same team, but when the Cardinals won the World Series, people started crying in public. Give me a break. Any insight on this phenomenon?

It almost seems as if they were pre - assembled and then purposely nestled in amongst a bunch of old factory buildings. This trend, I believe, started with the park they built in Baltimore a few years back, and since then several others have followed suit. Any ideas on this?
