Funny that the next day the papers came out saying StL and Detroit were America's two most dangerous cities.
Anyway, yeah, I guess I'd have to say the deserved it. I admit to being an StL fan but I was there listening on the radio every day for 162 games and the playoffs and this team fought so hard and dealt with unbelievable chaos this year. Add to that the entire media disrespected them badly with all the odds against them and even making fun of them ("Detroit in 3"). Usually America likes an underdog, but I think the press like Detroit better since they'd been so long since a Series win.
The Cards won about 100 games last year and 105 in 2004, and didn't win the Series. Bottom line is the reg season earns you a seed in the playoffs - after that you have to prove if you can play under pressure. None of the AL teams did that very well.
I think a better question is - did the fans in StL deserve to have a win? More so than Detroit? The team changes every year, different players. The players make millions win or lose. I am happy for the Cards fans, who have been selling out Busch even in down years! Detroit deserved to win too, just not as much.

Yes, the Cardinals deserved to win the World Series and here is why.
1. They didn't have home field advantage and they overcame that.
2. They had a horrible record in the regular season and almost lost the division and overcame that.
3. They lost in seven games the two World Series before the 2004 World Series.
4. The Tigers had their number in 1968.
5. Tony LaRussa had lost eight straight World Series games prior to this win.
6. Every single year the Cardinals have been in the hunt for October, but came up short.
7. Detroit is hockey town, not baseball town. Before this season, nobody cared about the Tigers. All of a sudden fans started appearing out of nowhere.
That is all.

I'm not a fan of people saying a team doesn't deserve to be there. However, they were beyond lucky to make the playoffs. They needed a team to have an epic collapse. It wasn't like they had an incredible run (Colorado Rockies a few years back) to win it. The Braves lost it, but once you make it, you deserve to be there. The only exception is when a team has less wins than a team that doesn't make it. It happens with Division winners in weak divisions that have 85 wins while the team missing the Wild Card has more wins. The Cardinals aren't in that situation. The Braves collapsed, but the Cardinals had a better record than any other Wild Card team and earned that place.

St. Louis absolutely deserved to win the World Series. I am a die hard Detroit Tigers fan and I am disappointed in their play in the World Series but a lot of that was due to the play of the Cards. I don;t think it wrecked Detroit's magical season, though, and I am thinking they will be back next year!
Congratulations Cards! (and fans)

Detroit certainly did not deserve to win given the utterly poor defense they played. Not sure what luck you are talking about the Cards having best I can tell they won 4 games to 1 so yes they deserve it.

Yes. They won in 5 games, so I think they were deserving. Of course, if the Mets hadn't had injuries, they might have been there. That's how it goes in sports though. It is just part of the game and season. I was for Detroit, too.

"Deserve" is an awkward word. Did anyone "deserve" to win the World Series really? St. Louis played better than Detroit in the series, and as a result, they won. That's the long and short of it.

no they experienced it 9 times b4 this is the tenth. And thats NOT a reason they shouldnt win. They outplayed the tigers so they deserved it. And to ZACK it wasnt the mets year or your muts would have won. Card beat you get over it. or better yet get used to it.
