According to research, Rolen compares favorably as a hitter to several past stars - Dave Winfield, Greg Luzinski, Reggie Jackson, Dale Murphy & Travis Fryman - as well as present stars like Chipper, Sheffield & Shawn Green. Of that small group of former All-Star & MVP players, only 2 are in the Hall (Reggie & Dave) while 2 others have a solid shot of being future HOFers (Chipper & Sheff, despite his surliness.) Add in the fact that Rolen has nabbed 6 Gold Gloves, 5 All-Star nominations, the Rookie of the Year award and has won the WS, and one might think he will have a decent shot.
However...his career BA is only .285 and he has only 253 career HR as a 3B, which is traditionally a power spot in the lineup (I know Boggs and others broke that mold, but many of those others had .315+ career BA.) He's only 31, but - as another blogger mentioned - has a history of nagging injuries. In 3 of his 10 full seasons, he's missed over 20 games, which is a significant chunk of those seasons. If he can find some way to get healthier as his career goes on (unlikely, but possible) to continue adding onto his HR and RBI totals, and boost his career BA over .290, I'd say he'd have a better chance than he has now.

Its way to early to make a call on that, but I have to agree he is one of the best to play that postition.his gold gloves 30 homer seasons,100 RBIseasons, and professionalism is beyond approach. As long as he stays injury freefor the next 6-7 years, and puts up the numbers he has in the past he has a good shot. But if you asked him he wouldn't care, he has his WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, anything else is gravy

If Rolen might have saved the offensive %. he grew to develop into on till finally Hee Sop Choi ran him over then effective. His numbers have been suitable on par with Mike Schmidt. yet now using actuality he has been injured plenty, he's lots off that %. and does no longer stand of venture. it quite is a rather shame using actuality he grew to develop into surely one in each and every of my nicely-favourite game enthusiasts with the enjoying cards and he grew to develop into quite thrilling to observe with the glove and bat.

I think he falls a bit short. He is a great fielder, but if you go through his career numbers, he has never had a string of HOF years. He breaks down too much to compile the magic numbers needed for induction (500 HR's, 3000 Hits). Look for him to stay on the ballot for a long time but fall short

I think he needs 5 more productive years, then yeah, if he gets a couple more gold gloves, with all the sportswriters saying he's the best 3rd basemen ever. It would be good for him to have a couple years of consistent production between now and then.

If he retired today, not a chance. He needs several more very solid years to be considered.
