Amidst all the negative publicity surrounding British motorsport, can we take a moment to honour the life of the greatest ever British rally driver, who lost his life yesterday in a helicopter crash.
Slainte, Col.

So many people state that without the "Chase" there is no playoff and that it is needed to root for their driver and to give them a chance? Even if a driver was to win the first 9 out of 18 races and lock up the championship before the deason was more than half over.... there are still 18 races that you can root for your driver to win. In baseball and basketball there are just so many games and each game in and of it self is meaningless. But in NASCAR, every race matters! And even if the 50th place driver who is running a short schedule wins a race, it is a big deal and everyone knows it! Look at Mark Martin... if it was only about winning the Championship he would have either finished the season by running every race or he wouldn't have run at all this year. What would the point be if all that mattered was just the Championship? Then Martin was just wasting everyones time running a short schedule.

The old system worked for a long time... then there was a TRUE champion!!!

I'm not on here all the time, as I get bored and will go back to knitting or something else instead of sitting at the computer all the time.
I'm sorry, but it's kind of a slow night, and if it's this slow now, what goes on during the longest 3 1/2 months of the year?
You can't talk about Junior and the 88 all winter, or can you?
Maybe you'll all just be talking about what a great champion Tony Stewart is...=)

Doesnt seem right, our $ is going to sponsors, instead of supporting our troops over seas with hardware capable of preventing deaths / injuries from IEDS etc? They also sponsor BUSH racing and other sports. Its our money, how can they do that? Its not even close to being right, when our troops are dying daily.

"Earnhardt, Jr to drive the No 88 in 2008
Quote selected text Published September 14th, 2007 in NASCAR News

Dale Earnhardt, JrFans who liked watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the #8 since he moved to the Nextel Cup series eight years ago will double their pleasure in 2008.

Earnhardt will drive two stylized 8s next season for Hendrick Motorsports, sources told ESPN.com on Friday. Robert Yates Racing, sources said, has agreed to sell the #88 that Dale Jarrett drove to the 1999 championship."

YATES IS PRETTY NICE, BUT I THINK THAT 88 IS A SPECIAL NUMBER FOR YATES, JARRETT WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH IT. I WOULDN'T HAVE GIVEN IT AWAY IF I WAS THEM, BUT THAT WAS AWFULLY NICE.

WHAT DO YOU THINK

Personally I think Jenson Button should be given the chance. He's a great driver who's had some truly rubbish cars - give him a McLaren and he'll be at the front.

Who would the other choices be? Kubica? Heidfeld? Would Massa leave Ferrari? Or maybe Webber?

My opinion is that Ferrari, and not McLaren, are responsible for the over-politicized Stepney-gate controversy in F1. I will personally not purchase any Ferrari, Marlboro, or Formula 1 branded merchandise, and will instead support Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes brands whenever possible because of Ferrari's actions during the 2007 Formula 1 Championship.
Further, because of BMW/Sauber's comments in the opinion of how they would receive a constructor's award in this year's championship, I will similarly endeavor to support those companies as well in lieu of what I perceive as greedy, controlling actions by Ferrari/Marlboro with regard to the FIA and F1 as a motorsport.
