"Earnhardt, Jr to drive the No 88 in 2008
Quote selected text Published September 14th, 2007 in NASCAR News

Dale Earnhardt, JrFans who liked watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the #8 since he moved to the Nextel Cup series eight years ago will double their pleasure in 2008.

Earnhardt will drive two stylized 8s next season for Hendrick Motorsports, sources told ESPN.com on Friday. Robert Yates Racing, sources said, has agreed to sell the #88 that Dale Jarrett drove to the 1999 championship."

YATES IS PRETTY NICE, BUT I THINK THAT 88 IS A SPECIAL NUMBER FOR YATES, JARRETT WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH IT. I WOULDN'T HAVE GIVEN IT AWAY IF I WAS THEM, BUT THAT WAS AWFULLY NICE.

WHAT DO YOU THINK

Yates should have kept the number!!! Jr should have driven taken the number 08, or maybe 83, 8 for him and the 3 for his dad!~~!!!!

I just hope Dale Jr. can use that number to become a winner, like his dad was in the number 3. Dale should appreciate the friends that his father had, and the respect in Nascar for Dale Sr. Junior needs to make the most of this opportunity to rise to the top, after all, this year has been one of many wins for the Hendrick teams. I think Yates would like to see the # 88 become a winner again, even if it isn't with their team.

It is great of RYR to let Jr have the 88. We must remember though the 88 is tied to Dale Jarret and he left RYR and former good friends to go to Toyota taking UPS with him. Robert was very upset with that and refused Dale Jarrets request to take the 88 along with him. It was a pretty rough falling out. The history of the 88 may not be as special to RYR after what Jarret did.

Giving it to Jr is kinda like a slap in the face to Jarret.

I think it's great!!! On the prerace show for the truck race, Travis Kvapil spilled the beans..He said that they were getting the sponsorship together and also working on the number!!! I don't think he realized what he said! Dale Jr. will be driving the 88 sponsored by PepsiCo.!!! Good Luck Jr. NASCAR, it's a way of life!!!!

Dang, didn't I tell ya? 88! It just made the most sense to me. Two eights are better than one!

I just hope the sponsor isn't Mountain Dew. I know there's probably a lot of Mtn Dew fans(!) out there. Personally, I think the stuff is gross, but I'm more concerned about the color scheme for his race car. There's just few color schemes that can beat the red of Budweiser.

It's not that I'm a big fan of Bud or anything... just that red is my favorite color!

I think that's cool- especially considering the car Junior owns in the Busch Series is #88.
My guess is they'll come up with a cool color scheme with Mt. Dew. IMO- it's better than Bud.

No big deal to most fans besides JRs. The 88 has been driven by Jarrett--Bobby Allison--Darrell Waltrip--Ricky Rudd just to name a few!!!! It is just a number.

Cool. Everyone with an 8 tattoo can just get an 8 before or after it.

They haven't officially announced anything, and won't until the 19th. So that's just an educated guess.
