OK, let's say the New Jersey Devils are playing the Boston Bruins. In the first period, Tim Thomas, the goalie for the B's get hurt. He's out for the game. So they put Hannu Toivonen, the back-up in. He gets hurt as well, out for the game. After Thomas and Toivonen are out, they'd put in Brian Finley (Bruins carry 3 goalies). OK?
Now, what happens if Finley is knocked out as well? No goalies left on the bench. This actually goes for ANY NHL team. If you run out of goalies, in the course of the game, what happens? I would imagine the refs tell the team they can dress any other player a goalie, they have 15 minutes to do so, or the game is forfeit. But I don't know if that's what really happens. So, someone who knows hockey better than I, what's the deal?
Add a side question to this, actually. Has this ever happened, all the goalies on a team injured or ejected I mean?
