I think this is maybe one of the ultimate fantasy matchups in terms of a fighter meeting a fighter,I think it's hard to pick who wins this matchup,I would say Duran on points in the action fight off alltime,I lean this way coz Duran seemes to always be throwing leather like Jeff Fenech used to do,Chavez was more calculated,I think Duran could win it on points or stoppage whereas Chavez could only win this fight by late round stoppage perhaps his amazing workrate to the body of Roberto would come into play late in the fight.

CHAVEZ - W 108 (KO's 86) TF 116 - W pct 97% - KO pct 74% - win over Lockridge, Rosario, Taylor[2], Mayweather, Camacho Ramirez and Limon - KO'ed by Kostya Tszyu and Del La Hoya - #50 ranked puncher (ranked too low) - #18 ranked fighter
Titles at 130, 135 and 140
DURAN - W 103 (KO's 70) TF 119 - W pct 87% - KO pct 58% - win over Leonard, Buchanan (it was a low blow foul that wasn't called), D. Moore, Palomino and Cuevas - KO'ed by Leonard (Duran quit in the ring), Hearns and W. Joppy - #28 ranked puncher - #5 ranked fighter
Titles at 135, 140, 147, 154 and 160
This bout is a MMM (Machismo Match of the Millennium). Who is the better puncher? Who is the better fighter? Does Chavez hit harder than Hearns? This will be a tough bout for both fighters. In this fight, we have a close 15 rd split decision in favor of Duran.

awesome question! i am a bit surprised no one's mentioned this matchup in all the dream match questions i've seen in the site. chavez is tough and durable and relentless and an awesome body puncher, but i think duran would give him too many angles, too much movement, and too much panamanian machismo w/those manos de piedras. i don't see this one going to a knockout, surprisingly enough but, rather, see duran pulling out a close, split decision! thx oasis for a truly original question that didn't just warm over the perenial ali vs tyson debate!~

Chavez body attack would break down Duran in a 15 round fight on the inside.

I believe that Roberto Duran would have been too much for Chavez. He was a very clever fighter and I believe he had more punching power than Chavez too. Chavez would fight hard but would get knocked out in about 8 rounds of a brutal fight.

Roberto Duran...he has cunning defensive skills, an iron jaw, power on both hands and not to mention he's a surgeon when it comes to punishing the body (specially bruising the kidneys). A boxer of Duran's greatness will not come until 100 years from now. (he's the jerry rice of boxing).

Even at the same weight, I think Duran had a bit more power. Would be a great matchup, but over by the 8th Round...
