During the early 1950's and 1960's, the New York Yankees became the most successful American League Baseball team winning eight American League Championship and winning six World Series. During the 1970's, the New York Yankees were not become a powerful team and out of nowhere, the Oakland Athletics were the American League West Division Champions from 1971 to 1975 and won the American League Championship and the World Series from 1972 to 1975.
My question is, how did the Oakland Athletics come out of nowhere and become a success during the early 1970's?

Dick Duff was a good player in the 60's. He could score a goal and was a gritty player. But he never scored 30 goals or 60 points in a season or made a post season all star team. He just happened to be on winning teams.
Same question for Leo Boivin and Bob Pulford ?
I don't mean to dump on these guys, they had fine careers, but I just don't think they have high enough credentials.

just been talking to a good friend of mine about fixing results, in football and horse racing. Her dad is a (major league) bookie, 'nuff said. She says that all games, including prem'ship, are fixable, and in fact, it happens a lot. And we're talking BIG names here. I refused to accept it but.... she knows! I don't know what to think, I'm kind of devastated by this! To make it worse, she says it's a lot more common in prem. football than horse racing! Is nothing sacred yet??
