Dick Duff was a good player in the 60's. He could score a goal and was a gritty player. But he never scored 30 goals or 60 points in a season or made a post season all star team. He just happened to be on winning teams.
Same question for Leo Boivin and Bob Pulford ?
I don't mean to dump on these guys, they had fine careers, but I just don't think they have high enough credentials.

For Duff, 6 cups is 6 cups. Can't deny that and the number of years he did play in the league.

Honestly, no and neither does Bernie Federko and he had over 1,000 pts. The HHOF is a joke. If any guy has played for the Leafs, he'll get consideration esp. if they won Cups. Glen Anderson (and he had a shirt stint wiith the Laffs so go figure) should be in given all the big goals he scored. Mark Howe should be in the Hall, too.

I think the problem is it's the "NHL" HOF and it's also a narrow vision of the NHL.

They need to have some set criteria--actual "fame" as if you take Pulford, Ralph Backstrom should be in the HOF by that logic.

In a six team league, it wasn't luck, that you played in the NHL...If you weren't good enough, there were a bunch of players waiting in the hallway to fill the gap. All players on a winning team play a role....not just the goal scorers. You have defensive forwards that contribute greatly towards success. An example is Bob Gainey...played for the Habs. His stats are not sensational, but he has been referred to as the best all around player of his time. I don't agree with Doug Gilmore being in the Hall....His claim to fame was being kissed by Don Cherry on National TV

No way. Being on a great team is just luck. It has nothing to do with how good of a player you are. There are more deserving players than Dick Duff who are not in the Hall yet.

No. I agree with everything you said J Z. I think that Doug Gilmour should have been voted in instead of Duff.

I agree, he doesn't belong in the Hall. He was just lucky enough to play on good teams.
