if the core belief in christianity is you either accept jesus or burn forever, how can that be considered tolerant? would you consider me tolerant if i told you to believe what i believe or i'll shoot you? i could just as easily say you're free to believe what you want to believe, but if you don't believe what i believe i will shoot you. does that make me any more tolerant?

By contrast,we live in an era in which many people acknowledge a need for spirituality in their lives that is not being met by traditional sources .Moreover, the languageof spirituallity has been debased;pressed into the service of commerce and politics,it is now freighted with associations that undermine its very intention:to help individuals shape a fuller more satisfying connection to the spirit.

Just because I question GOD. I believe that is apart of my own spiritual journey. I think everyone hits a low place before having some sort of revelation. So why do people tell me im full of pride and a sinner when I just question the world, religoin, and life.

More and more I am becoming more anti-christian because of this.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Look the good thing she did for her son and for herself. This is the true love! The mother who chose life for her son and the son who chose to meet her again 22 years later.

I just saw this:

"The only way to be saved and go to heaven and not eternal hell is by BELIEVING that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again."

In an answer to this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj_A_EE2isYnEmoEdegT7KLsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071220084251AAvFEU4

I was very glad to see it because it's exactly what I believe -- with my whole heart, mind and soul.

So ... do you believe this, too?

I just thought some people -- including our friend with the Galatians quote -- might be interested to see how many individual Catholics do, in fact, meet this criterion.

And by the way, this is a sincere question.

I just read this claim in another post as justification of a theist's POV. I kinda read it like, "Well, even Hades knows that Zeus is real," or even, "But Skeletor believes in He-Man". Please show either your support or lack thereof for this assertion.

I try to help as many people when they ask questions about God, but then they just go for some stupid answer that is wrong. If they didn't want to know the truth why did they ask at all. They wouldn't have asked if they weren't somewhat interested in what God is like.

"If a man rapes your mother, should the 'Loving judge' let the rapist go free?
How do you define love anyway?"

So the argument is that if you wouldn't let a rapist go free, why should a sinner not suffer eternal torment, correct? We all agree on this interpretation, right? Sounds like a straw man argument to me. What do you think? Is finite punishment for a finite act a little bit of an oversimplified analogy to eternal torment for fleeting sins?

My secular immediate family is hosting a dinner for my mostly religious extended family next week. When my immediate family visits our relative's homes, we're asked to join in prayer (hold hands, bow our heads).

But what is the protocol for this coming event? Are we, as hosts, expected to continue this custom? Should they, as guests, know to pray silently or individually?
