I just read this claim in another post as justification of a theist's POV. I kinda read it like, "Well, even Hades knows that Zeus is real," or even, "But Skeletor believes in He-Man". Please show either your support or lack thereof for this assertion.

I believe that verse is proof that the once saved always saved just believe in Jesus theory is fales because even the demons believe and tremble according to the text.

It is just stating that belief in the bible God is not enough.

I agree with you, by some theist saying that God exists because even Satan believes he exists is the same as proving Zeus exists by stating Hades believes in Zeus. It is a childish theist statement of someone not thinking of how ridiculous a statement it actually is. Have they found Satan, talked to him, can produce him to show to the world? No, they can not, it is all make-believe in their minds. Your assertion is correct and they are making stuff up as they go. It must be tough to be an adult and still make things up and live in a make-believe world with invisible friends.

You can't believe in Satan without believing in God first, since God created Satan, so it doesn't make sense to try and prove God's existence by referring to Satan.

Circular argument, no basis in reason or logic.

Of course, as is pointed out in another answer in a little more length, the modern christian understanding of Satan is derived from Zoroastrianism and Mithraism (read: pagan religion).

It is actually entirely possible that the scripture bandied about from Matthew was intended to be a repudiation of the worship of these pagan religions, and has come to mean something exactly opposite - for now modern chrisitanity by and large embraces the existence of demons and devils and Satan.

Satan knows God better than any man. Lucifer (who became Satan) was a created angelic being that was given much authority. Lucifer was jealous of God and was determined to "be like the Most High".

For this blasphemy Lucifer was cast out of Heaven and became Satan, who has many names, among them; Devil, the Evil One, etc.

Your question makes an untrue assumption. First of all, Lucifer, or Satan, never believed "in" God. In other words, Satan was never content to allow God to be his God. Satan knows all "about" God but he rejects God's authority and power.

Sound familiar? It should. There are numerous people on YA that know "about" God but reject Him. Believing "in" God is to say the same thing about God that He says about Himself.

Hope this helps.

edit: Believing "in" God also means that we accept what God says about us. He tells us that we are sinners in need of redemption.. And we agree with Him.. And accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.

The point to this quote from James is to show that people who say they believe, yet do not have a life reflecting what they claim to believe is useless. Saying, "Even Satan believes.." is drawing the idea that, "Look, you say you believe, but even Satan knows who God is and look at where Satan wound up."

The point to this portion of James' letter is showing that people need to live what they believe - "faith without works is dead", as he stated. We can "believe" all we want, but unless we live and do what and Whom we believe, the belief is only mental assent.

After all "the demons believe and tremble" - but they do not live for God nor do they willingly do His will.

I cannot envision a "god" that does not INCLUDE a "Satan".Personally,I don't believe their is any separation, for something to have meaning,it's opposite MUST exist.I think men externalized this idea, and created a "god"to personify all that is good, altruistic, and noble in the man,and "Satan" to represent those choices we make that are not good for us,those "bad thoughts"that sometimes cross all our minds, when we are tempted to be selfish. All this is part of the whole

Yes, Satan does believe in God. He just doesn't worship God. In fact, Satan, who is also named Lucifer by God, was the most beautiful and powerful of all the angels in Heaven until he went against God and was thrown out of Heaven. That is when God made Hell and why. And of course Skeletor believes in He-Man!

Forget the loon and his 'begging the question' bull. Let's stipulate like the big time lawyers do. IF there is a Satan then he would certainly know who God is, having been created by Him and having been rejected by Him.

But your terminology is imprecise. Satan does not believe IN God. He merely knows there is a God.

Satan spoke to God on several occasions. Once was in Job, were he was telling God that Job wasn't all that. There was also a time when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness. If Satan did not believe God existed... it seems odd that He would have conversations with him.

Why even trouble yourself with such foolishness? Does it really matter? State a question of what you believe and leave the silly ones to their own venue. What is POV any way?
