A.D. comes from Latin .....Anno Domini.
It means 'year of our Lord."
The first of January is considered a new year thanks to the Romans ....as in Roman Empire.

Yes, the new year is celebrated on January 1. A.D. stands for "anno Domini", Latin for "In the Year of Our Lord." Since the actual year Jesus was born is unknown, most scholars use C.E. ("Common Era") instead.

A.D. is a abbreviation for the Latin words Anno Dominai ( not sure of the spelling). It means- Year of Our Lord

Is the USA we stay up till midnight of Dec 31to celebrate the new year which begins January 1st.
Some people have a party and blow horns and stuff at midnight. Others don't even bother ot stay up. Seems like the younger you are the more you celebrate it.

A.D. stands for Anno Domini which means The Year of Our Lord and since we don't know when He will return this term is applied to each year.

AD means "anno domini". This is latin for "in the year of our lord", and it is meant to number the days since the birth of Jesus. And the new year begins on January first.

WOW!

So far seven have answered this question correctly.

That does not happen very often.

By the way BC stands for Before Christ.

Secular progressives who don't like to admit our caldendar is based from the birth of Chirst have come with a new set of terms:

CE Common Era, which means the same as AD

BCE Before the Common Era, which means the same as BC
