if the core belief in christianity is you either accept jesus or burn forever, how can that be considered tolerant? would you consider me tolerant if i told you to believe what i believe or i'll shoot you? i could just as easily say you're free to believe what you want to believe, but if you don't believe what i believe i will shoot you. does that make me any more tolerant?

There is no such thing as a tolerant religion.

True Christians do not judge others. It is true, that the Christian belief is that acceptance of Jesus as your Savior is the only way to heaven(more correctly, to God), the individual is not judging nor is the religion intolerant. It is simply a fact, much like saying "if you don't eat, you'll starve to death." No intolerance, simply a statement of fact. Your examples indicate that the individual believer will "punish" you in some way, Most Christians believe that "hell" is separation from God, not a fiery pit. It's easy to see intolerance etc, when you fail to look more closely at the religion. Jesus taught us to love everyone, and judge no one, how can that be construed as intolerant?

How stupid !!
All the patriarchs and holy people of the Old Testament are honored as saints. In the Transfiguration aren't Elijah and Moses said to be there.
You are just plain wrong. Don't flatter yourself. Accept Jesus or burn forever !! -- St Paul explicitly rejects that as an unChristian teaching. Those without the Law will be judged on conscience.
You are not intolerant, that would take some information. Grow up.

Christianity is NOT tolerant--accept Jesus or burn in hell.

Muslims are taught to believe that all who believe that G-d is One must be accepted (and that includes Jews and Christians).

Jews I feel are tolerant. That is why I converted-or, one of the reasons. As long as you believe that G-d is One, you can have your own ideas and ways of doing things. No other Jew is suppose to judge you.

Then, are any religions really lived the way they are supposed to be lived?

Of course they're "tolerant." If they weren't, they would reinstate the Inquisition and the pogroms. How do you feel about being "tolerated?" Thankful that your are still alive? Exactly how we Jews feel. We pray that Christians will continue on their path of tolerance -- we much prefer it to the intolerance of the past. Been there -- done that!

Do you tolerate your children? How long do you tolerate your pets before you take drastic action?

You just described the problem with the religion called Islam, not Christianity.

Islam tells its followers to murder those who don't submit to Islam.

When Islamic Clerics run a country they kill all those who are disrespectful to Islam to Mohammed. Recenly Islamic Clerics wanted to execute a school teacher for naming a Teddy Bear, Mohammed.

When in fact, her students voted to name the Teddy Bear that, in honor of Mohammed.

When Bible believing Christians run a country they give religious freedom to all even to Muslims. This is the situation today in the USA.

When Islamic Clerics run a country they do not give religious freedom to all.

Look at how countries like the Sudan and Iran are ruled today.

Jesus told His followers to love their enemies.

Mohammed told his followers to kill innocent women and children in countries which don't force Islam as the national relgion.

Are you old enough to remember what happened on 9 - 11 ???

Christianity doesn't say, "believe what I believe or I'll send you to hell." It says, "everyone is a sinner and sinners can't go to heaven. But God has provided a way of getting to heaven despite our sinfulness, and here it is." It's tolerant because *anyone* can take advantage of what it has to offer, no matter how bad a life he has lived until now.

I don't know how anyone can claim their religion is a tolerant one. If you were to tell me you would shoot me if I didn't believe the way you did, I'd lose respect for you instantly and fight fire with firewpower (always on my person legally!)

Any religion that proclaims my way or eternal torment is not in any way tolerant. Most Christians believe that they must convert others so most don't even understand tolerance

Christianity never portrayed it's self as a tolerant religion. This is a resent concept to be more PC in modern times.

Tolerance comes in many forms.

Some people think religious freedom is the freedom o force your religion on someone else.
