Well, there are people of all religions on here, and we usually all get along.

However, if someone insults someone else's religion (or lack of), it sometimes gets dirty.

If you have questions about someone else's religion, ask. Just don't insult them, as that is just rude.

Also, bravo on actually asking these questions first. Most people just log on and start insulting other people right away.

Mm. I am new to Yahoo, but have spent some time in R&S over the last 2-3 weeks. What I am seeing is this:

A lot of good, sincere people having a wide ranging discussions about Religion and Spirituality. It's great!

A few people who want to use it as a forum to push their own philosophical agenda (and are not so fond of real discussion). And a few people who just seem to be negative. Pretty much what I would expect.

A few people who just want to start a flame war.

Judging from your question, you might want to do what I've been trying to do. Join the interesting discussions, and stay out of the flame wars. And when I post something that disagrees with something that someone else has said, I try to be respectful. Even a little more so than usual because these are hot topics for a lot of people.

When talking about "religion", people will hear the truth on a matter, and you know the saying, "Truth Hurts", such as homosexuality is a sin. Other people it's simply the fact that people have a lack of respect for others' beliefs.

Atheists make fundies feel bad, fundies try to to the same but fail.

Just avoid being a fundie, troll, "crusader" or zealot. Otherwise just ask and answer away.

As has been said, "Avoid discussions re politics/religion ... they usually end badly."

Religion is a controversial subject, so sometimes the feathers fly in here. That's what makes it so much fun. : P

Many theists come to R&S and complain that there is not just other theists to reinforce their beliefs, but people who will either challenge or satirize those beliefs. That is what they are describing. The ultimate irony is that they come with reams of ridicule and scorn, but cannot abide being ridiculed or scorned.

Whatever your argument/question is, someone will have a counter.

Some of them make sense, some don't

Religious people sometimes get scared because atheists use unfair tactics like facts, truth, logic and common sense.

WHO says that? ***sharpens pitchfork and lights torches...get the mob together, we're leaving!!***

avoid the 'drink' questions (atheists drink when you ask common questions as part of a game) that is monkey evolution, bad things to good people, and banana questions, an WHY ARE THERE ATHEISTS HERE?

Because both christians and atheists alike can fall prey to hackers, cyber-stalkers and identity thieves.
As far as what makes Christians feel bad. Not questions, just insults.

It's an endless cycle of circular reasoning. Nothing is resolved. You'll agree with some, dislike and disagree with others, just like life itself. I find it empowering to enhance my knowledge with other peoples' beliefs.
