Earlier today I was presented with a rather unusual question: Is it ever o.k. to lie? According to the 9th commandment it is NEVER an acceptable practice. Consider for a moment the following example:

In WWII you have taken it upon yourself to assist and abet a gathering of jews in your attic, you supply them with all the necessary resources for survival. One day some members of the gestopo come to your door and ask you whether or not you had been assisting jews.

In this situation a certain contridiction is developed because of 6th commandment: "thou shall not kill." One is essentially left with two choices which both violate a commandment.

1. Lie, resulting in the violation of the 9th commandment.
2. Tell the truth, resulting in the violation of the 6th commandment.

Is this abnormal? Does this phenomenon ensure damnation for some individuals due to the fact that they violate a commandment for every possible choice presented to them?

Jesus himself was a liberal. In fact he was pretty radical. He worked to bring about tremendous change, he didn't compromise his ideals, he had ideas that many saw as blasphemous.

but in the US something strange has happened

Christian=Conservative=Patriotic=Supporting Bush=Having Family Values

Therefore Liberal=Godless=Immoral=Anti-US, etc

But that doesn't make any sense. Jesus was anything but conservative. He didn't come to save Americans he came to save the world. & he'd certainly not be supporting a president who started a war.

The Christian Right is so strongly anti-gay, but Jesus said to love your neighbor, not love your neighbor as long as he's not gay, and he also said that it's not our place to judge each other, so if homosexuality really is a sin, then God will judge that person when they die, it is not for us to do, here.

So basically Jesus taught indiscriminate love, non-judmentalness and peace... meanwhile conservative "christians" seem to be doing the opposite

I keep seeing this complaint - "you say we're going to burn in Hell" - show up in "answers" around here. I've seen it, but usually from trolls. So - simple question. Have you ever in your life said that to anyone else for any reason whatsoever?

I'm sure others will chime in here, and please feel free. If you're about to tell me about how many times that's been said to you, do me a favor - link to just one. If it's as rampant as you claim, that should be easy.

then isn't he responsible for everything that happens?

He could make you do whatever he wants and by not making you, he is also deciding, because he knows what you will do.

Sounds passive-aggressive to me.

Explain your relationship with God, or not. Is it in spiritual reality, emotional reality, or material reality? What is the defining moment, or the realization that Source does not exist, or exist.... Why do YOU believe?

It appears there are alot of people that really don`t look outside of the box, and thats really very sad. You quote the bible , but do you really understand what it all means? You say that if you have those powers then your not a true christian, thats funny couldn`t jesus heal people? I have found alot of selfproclaimed christians to be somewhat hypocritcal. I never claimed to be a christian nor have i ever wanted to be one, I just am what i am.

I am starting to doubt my faith. Just last week I felt so strongly connected with God and everything was great, but now after going to a funeral, I don't know why but I'm starting to doubt if there is a God. I think it might just be because I am confused about life after death and how we got here. Please convince me that there really is a God.
