I am starting to doubt my faith. Just last week I felt so strongly connected with God and everything was great, but now after going to a funeral, I don't know why but I'm starting to doubt if there is a God. I think it might just be because I am confused about life after death and how we got here. Please convince me that there really is a God.

There definitely is! Sad things are going to happen in life, it's just a part of it. Christians, along with everyone else, shouldn't let these bad things bring down their faith...try to make it strengthen your faith by thanking God for all the wonderful things you may have recieved from the person who died. I'm not the most inspirational speaker, so I definitely can't convince you that there is a God, but I hope you know that I believe there is, for SURE.

Remember, we're TOO blessed to be depressed!

No one can convince you that there either is or is not a god. One's relationship to Deity is the most personal thing, and IMHO, is never something to be dictated by another.

That said, there will always be times when you wonder if you are on the "correct" path. There is no "correct" path and as long as you strive to be a good person and follow the Golden Rule (which has its variations in many cultures and languages), you will be moving forward in a good way. Be at peace.

I think what you feel you are missing is an emotional type of connection that happens sometimes. Please understand that this emotional thing comes and goes over time, and is not something that should concern you. Our culture places far too much emphasis on emotion when intent is more powerful.

Remember, just because an atheist says "There is no god" does not mean there isn't one. It just means there isn't one that the atheist accepts. That's his path, and that's okay as long as the intent is good, how he treats his fellow man is good.

You might want to investigate different spiritual paths and see what works for you. You'll be fine as long as your intent is for good.

you dont remeber how you got here and how you became aware. you spirit knows there is more but the mind desires concrete proof. think first how this amazingly complex earth became and one thinks of a creator. if the creator created you wouldn't he leave a means for you to know him until the day you return to him. Yes, this is religion. Although I am not christian, I am Muslim. We believe that the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) as the last prophet perfected religion and fixed the aspects of Christianity that were corrupted by pagan influences and time. The Bible has much truth to it although aspects of it were changed and there are many versions and there is only one version of the quran. Muslims believe that suffering is part of life and a test for true believers. Death is a chance to return to the creator. Read the Quran (muslim holy book) it tells you exactly why God put you on earth and for what purpose and where you go. Muslims believe Jesus is not the son of god but rather he was a prophet of god like those before him but his message was misinterpreted and twisted by some who misunderstood and loved him too much and thus attempted to exalt him. I give you this information to consider reading more and i am sure you will find the answers.

I can answer from the bible about death and an afterlife.

Psalms 146:4 - "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; In that day his thoughts do perish."

Ecclesiastes 9:5 - "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten."

Ezekiel 18:4 - "Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die."

All is not lost...

John 3:16 - "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."

John 17:3 - "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."

John 11:24, 25 - "Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life;"

Why would the bible say when we die, we are really dead, and then speak of Resurrections, if there was an afterlife?

Isaiah 25:8 - "He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces. And the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken [it].

Revelation 21:3-5 - "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also, he says: “Write, because these words are faithful and true.”

I hope I have helped you... Death is not the end...
Journey Well...

If there wasn't a god, how did humans come to be. If there isn't a god, who has been there for us. If there wasn't a god how did this earth come to be? If there isn't a god, why do we have these ancient records that have now become the bible. If there really is no God, where did the concept of God come from. If there really is no god, who thought of it? Did someone just say " You know, I'm gunna go tell people that there is a superior being that controls everything just for the hell of it." I don't think so. If there is no god, why do good things happen when we pray? Why do we exist!!! I hope your faith becomes strong like gods power once again. Bless. I can't believe this. People are saying that you can't PROVE that there is a god. Seeing is not believing. I bet if those people saw god, they would tell themselves they were crazy. Why don't you prove that you love your mother. Prove it. You can do something nice for her but that doesn't prove it. If you can't prove love, how do you know it's there. Love exists, everyone knows that, but yet, we can't prove it. Like most everyone knows that god exists but yet, we can't prove it.

I find personally that when I am going through a trial I grow so much as a Christ Follower. I do not like the trial, but realize it is part of my walk. I notice these are the times when I seek God more passionately in my prayers, in my fellowship with other believers and more deeply in the word. I could spend hours with you and giving you all types of evidence in our God, His Will and desire for you. But as a Christian you have someone so much more convincing than I ever could be - the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to seek, Him, open the Word (read the Book of John over the next couple of days) and Pray. Let God take the pain, and He will restore the faith. Give Him a chance to build your relationship with Him. Seek Him and he will find you.

God Bless

Many people feel that teachings of eternal torment are not something that they want to embrace. I know that I didn't! That's why I & so many others have studied the Bible to learn what it *really* teaches. And, what we find when we do so, is that it teaches nothing of the kind! Instead, it teaches that the future for faithful mankind is very bright, indeed. While --at the same time-- the future for the wicked is simply nonexistent...

Listed below are Bible-based articles --complete with Scripture references that double as links to the very verses named-- on subjects that should help you regain faith in God, perhaps in a way you never before knew Him to be...

I am sorry for your loss. Any death can be a blow to person especially if that person who has passed is young, or someone you've known all your life.
I know, I am not a Christian, but these type questions are interesting.
Let me start with your last statement; "Convince me there really is a God".
In any faith, religion, path, you cannot be convinced there is a God. If you look at some of the answers on this site you will see why. Some are to the point, but most are useless.
Faith in Deity, whichever religion you are, is not something someone can convince you of, you, as a human, have to find that spark inside yourself, and make it burn for you. Someone Else's "Fever" for Christianity can not be caught. Talk with your Minister, or trained counselor of your faith.
Life after death. People see things in their own mortality, that makes them want to believe there is life after death. After all, our essesence, or soul, what makes us, us, surely would not just blink out after our bodies have been put thru life. Christians believe in he aspect of Heaven, myself, it is Summerland. Both places are where our souls go to either await re-birth, after examining our faults, or waitiing for the second coming to be judged.
Either way, there is a place our souls do go to, so take heart!! Death is just another part of the wheel of life.
How we got here. People can argue til the sun goes cold about this one. There are so many views on how life began
primordial ooze, God, evelution, ect. I don't dwell on how we got here, but the fact I am here, and how I can make a difference. Philosophy on the beginings of life should be left to exam at 3 a.m. after having a few shots of your favorite liquor.
Takl with our minister, examine yourself and "WHY" you are having these doubts. Don't let someone convince you there is a God. Remember all those who drank the kool-aid, let someone convince them in God.
Blessed Be.

Sonya, this is a very bad place to come for help with your faith. There are wolves here attempting to tear down your faith. Something of a battle ground really so please be careful. This place is for those with strong solid faith only.

HOWEVER, try this. Read from Genesis Chapter 37 to the end of Genesis. Ok that is the story of Joseph. You will notice this story is actually a prophecy of Jesus. Do it! This will help you.

Joseph is very much like Jesus. He is betrayed by his brothers for silver and Joseph is symbolically dead from his father’s perspective and comes back to life as a king of sorts. In the end Joseph saves the world of his day from certain death from starvation. Joseph like Jesus is merciful to his brothers that betrayed him.

The entire Old Testament is a prophecy of Jesus hidden within the stories themselves. Read and pray. Once your eyes are opened up to the prophecies your faith will never be shaken again. And honestly death is just a metaphor. God and heaven are what is real.

Jesus said of the dead girl “she is merely sleeping” and he woke her up. Death really is merely sleeping. We all die in symbolism every night when we fall asleep. This is how we all subconsciously know there is an afterlife. Just as we wake up everyday God will wake us all up from death as well.

I am sorry about your loss, but please don't let that destroy your faith.

Be encouraged, Mike

Sweetie, you just went to a funeral! I bet you're depressed and maybe a little angry, too. If you're like me, you always feel so safe and secure after you pray. You don't get that same feeling if you try to reason things out logically. I went through a period of time like this. What I did was start to pray. A lot. It really helped me and reassured my faith. That's what you need to do, too. Just keep praying. God loves you. You'll get your faith back again.
