I have asked several previous questions about works and all but one of the Protestants agreed with Catholic doctrine on works and salvation. So, is it hypocritical that Protestants condemn Catholics when their beliefs are identical?

I ask this, primarily reggarding the current ban on "The Golden Compass" by the Christian fundamentalists. This, and every time they try to protest or ban an event, a movie or a book, it always backfires tremendously. They screamed against Harry Potter...the sales will probably exceed 200 million dollars between movies and books. They screamed against the book, "The DaVinci Code". It remained on the NY times best seller list for three years. "The Last Temptation of Christ would have failed faster if the fundamentalists just kept their mouths shut, but instead succeeded BECAUSE of the protests.

Christian fundamentalists are not the only ones. Islamic fundamentalists also ordered a death sentence to Salmon Rushdie for a writing a chapter about a dream where Muhammed had sexual relations. If they left it alone, the barely functional book probably would have not have found its way into libraries, but the hullabaloo raised made it an international best seller.

A seemingly stupid question, I agree, but tell me in your own words what you think or believe "sin" to be.

I read that during the Roman persecution of Christians that it was the duty of every Christian to be as Christlike as they could. And part of that was to experience his passion (suffering). Therefore early Christians wanted to be arrested and charged so they could admit that it was true and refuse to recant, thus guarenteeing a trip to the arena for a public execution after excrutiating torture. This was expected of all Christians. If that's true, they would have had a difficult time converting me, to say the least.

Nothing! while pagans pray to numerous gods and godesses, catholics pray to numerous saints, male and females!
what's up with that similarity?

I read the book 'Night' by Elie Weisel (incredibly good read!!) not long ago and I'm just wondering: How can anybody possibly believe in God after knowing about all the horrible things that happened in the Holocaust? What kind of a god would let that happen? What could justify something so disgusting?

I've never been religious, but I've always believed in God, had a little faith, but now, after reading 'Night' I find it impossible to believe in any God, let alone one worthy of our respect..

Did he condemn the works of the law or the works through obedience to the Holy Spirit? Or was it all works?

2007-12-13 12:20:15 · 6 answers · asked by cristoiglesia 7

I'm asking this because, i cannot say that it would necessarily, as per it pertains to me.

I choose to believe that family members of mine that have passed on, have gone to heaven, when the truth is for some of them, i know they believed in God, but the fine details are fuzzy, and i do not know where their hearts were at the time of thier passing. I know that the bible says the requirement is that you believe on the Lord Jesus; so those without Christ are lost.

But, i believe that God is gracious, and i do think that for some, because he knows their hearts, he may reveal himself to them in the moments before they pass on; some never have that opportunity though.

But, if you thought that a loved one went to hell, would that affect your view on God? I feel as though, it would be very painful, but then again, why should i assign myself the same eternal destiny as they, as that won't change anything.

So, what are your thoughts on this issue? I am just curious.
