It depends on whether they had their first marriage annulled with the church or not. My father became Catholic when he married my step-mother

The children will absolutely be accepted and welcomed by the Church. If you are legally married they are legitimate. We do not hold the actions of the parents against children.
The divorced partner should look at the annulment process. This will allow you to fully participate in the life of the Church. It is also a wonderful healing process. I've known people who put off the getting an annulment for years and then when they did they would say, "Wow, I feel so much better about my ex. I see now it wasn't all my ex's fault. I can finally let go of what happened."
Here's a good resource about annulments: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac1002.asp
EDITED ADDITION:
The annulment really has no effect on the children. An annulment addresses the sacramental nature of a marriage, not the legal nature. The children are still the product of a legal marriage. A divorce doesn't make children illegitimate. A Church annulment doesn't make children illegitimate.

If the catholic's former marriage is annulled and you are free to marry as well, there are no problems with the marriage. Yes, the children are legitimate because you are legally married (legitimate = legal). Yes, the kids are accepted by the Church.
If you are speaking about the children born of a marriage that is later annulled, they're legitimate, too, assuming the parents were legally married. You can be legally married even if you aren't sacramentally married in the eyes of the Church.
"Legitimate" or not, all children are accepted by the Catholic Church.

The kids are legitimately kids. The kids are a future money source for the church, so YES, they will be accepted with open arms.
