how do you prove your love for God. being a good person takes and understanding of what God wants from us and I know he does not want us to sin so grace is what saves us and the laws we obey show our love for God.

Sometimes it's funny but at the same time a bit disturbing.

Some how it seems like they think if they write about God it has to be done in rhetoric to make it sound so amazingly profound. You know the kind of answers I am talking about:

"Why do I believe in God? All I have to do is look in the mirror and see one of His many miracles! To think we all came from a tiny seed planted in our Mothers womb to grow. And also to look around this planet earth and see all Gods beauty. To look at the heavens above and see more of Gods beauty. We cannot see God because He is like the wind, we cannot see that neither, but we know it is there! How can one not believe in God?"

I mean you never see an atheist talk about their beliefs like this do you. I also think it's funny when people quote the Bible, as if they are possessed. Anyway dnt want to make the q too long. Anyone know what i'm talking about?

This morning Grandma spent two hours giving me (pretty good) reason on why God DOES exist. For most people this would have been enough, but I am still not convinced. After word my uncle spent another hour reinforcing the things grandma had said...still I am not satisfied...why is this?

As you may note I have never asked a question before but today in meditation, the Blessed Mother asked me this question and I immediately knew that it was the greatest question I had ever heard. What came to mind is Mark 8:18
"Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear?" Let me know your thoughts.

Doesn't that prove that Christians have been ignoring the "Thou shalt not steal" rule for centuries? Or am I taking that out of context--thou shalt not steal EXCEPT from pagans and heathens?

Jeremiah 10:2 KJV Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3* For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4* They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

one would think the master would also be a master craftsman, but the Bible says nothing (at least I've seen nothing). Shouldn't some of his handiwork still be around?

... or maybe he was a failure. That would explain why he went on to do, uh, other things.

Its a beautiful, mysterious, sometimes frightening book. And it contains wisdom and glimpses of the nature of God that are true in any age.

But wasn't it written for the first century? Didn't its author(s) believe that Jesus Christ would return in their lifetime? Isn't it basically written in a coded manner for its own time?

So does the book still hold any truth today in terms of giving us any clues about the future of humanity?

While I do agree that Christianity is far from any truth, prescription drugs actually cause more harm than good.

Furthermore, by deeming another as “delusional” you are only reiterating the same process by which Christians in the past have persecuted others.

Don’t you feel the best way to share your views is through a peaceful, open-minded conversation?

Some people say that death is so disgusting, why is this? Misunderstanding?

I have been struggling with this issue for some time now. I understand that Jesus walked this earth and that is a known fact. What I'm struggling with is the question, "Is Jesus who he said he was?" and "Did he wake up from the dead or did someone just steel his body?" How do we know for "SURE" that the bible is completely true? I don't want to say I believe, but I don't want to say I don't believe- I just "don't know" anything for sure and just curious what others think about this topic since it's so hard for me to discuss this in person. Thanks for your answers!

is that an acceptable way of converting people according to Christianity?

Having looked at Matthew's account, let's look at Mark's account.

First: Mark 9:1
Jesus said there will be some standing in his audience who would not die til they see the Kingdom of God come with power.

(Church folks explain this by saying he was talking about the transfiguration. The transfiguration was not the kingdom of God coming with power. It was a local event.)

Next: Mark 13:30
Here are the predictions in detail:
(1) The sun shall be darkened.
(2) The moon will not give light.
(3) Stars of heaven shall fall.
(4) Jesus seen coming in clouds with great power & glory.
(5) He'll send his angels and gather the righteous.

Then Jesus says: This generation will not pass until all these things be fulfulled.

(Now church folks change their tack and explain this by saying 'generation' means mankind.
Generation doesn't mean mankind; it means generation. If he meant mankind, it would go without saying, so he wouldn't say it.)

Question: comments anyone?

I have been studying with a witness. I am so confused! I have been researching the origin of the religion (not through the witness) on my own and I have not found anything positive. The woman that I am studying with is very nice and is trying to help me understand the religion. How can I trust that this religion operated by imperfect humans is perfect and is the way to go? How do I know that it is the truth? How do I know that it is operated through God's Holy Spirit?

Or anything supernatural, for that matter?

"There must be something more, something bigger than us out there. Saying that you're an atheist and that you don't believe in anything supernatural is very arrogant, since there HAS to be something else. How do you explain all the claims of ghost sightings and demon possetions?"

A friend of mine recently told me this when we had a discussion on religion. What say you?

Theism is the belief in a god figure
An atheist is someone who is not sure about the existence of a higher being/god figure.
I am 100% positive that there is no such thing, and i feel that religion needs to be opposed in all it's forms, because it is at best a hinderence to logic and at worst a danger to human life.
That is why a am an antitheist.
Will you join me in the quest for common sense?

I need some advice on how to *politely* deal with being asked if I've been "saved". I'm an atheist/agnostic and I have a couple that I meet in social situations (friends of friend from work situation-- Christmas parties, BBQs etc) who always ask me if I'm saved (and if not want to discuss in depth exactly why not and convince me that I'm wrong).

I want to be polite about it, but they are very persistent (to the point of feeling aggressive) and don't seem to really listen to what I say anyway. I don't want to lie (I have to be true to myself), but they manage to find me at any gathering we're at and turn it into an uncomfortable event. Since I enjoy the company of my friend (and his parties) I don't want to be rude, but it gets to a point where I'm afraid I'll impolitely tell them to back off. I also want to be as respectful of their beliefs as possible.

Any advice on what to say?
